And this is a good video helping explain why you should have a balanced cable connection. Also some tips to troubleshoot them.

I seem to find that is my RCA connections that are my biggest issues, sure eliminating the ground lift helps and is not the hot ticket, but I find most times it is the RCA ground shield making the noise. I have seen eliminators like this on many sites, but I feel that while the transformer in the unit should solve the hum, it is going to restrict the quality.

So is there something similar that is audiophile grade, an inline filter etc? I have seen XLR plugs that are ground lifts, but what about RCA inline stuff?

In terms of an inline filter for RCA connections, I have had excellent results suppressing a ground loop in one of my systems using the Jensen CI-2RR Iso-Max Stereo Audio Isolator & Hum Eliminator. Completely eliminated the ground loop with no apparent degradation in sound quality. I believe I noticed one for sale in the Marketplace recently.
