Mini-Review of the Godox TT685 Flash for Fuji users

I had a pro photo shoot this week at the track I shoot for, Sonoma Raceway. It was a gig for documenting a corporate event held at the track for marketing purposes.

Anyhoo, I had to work in a range of lighting conditions, including indoor and outdoor with bright sun. Fortunately, I had my Godox TT685 "F" flash that provides full TTL support, and I was very impressed with the performance of this flash, particularly when shooting outdoors in very contrasty conditions. The Godox provided just the right amount of fill to look very natural. The camera and flash worked as a system to provide fill but not blow out the backgrounds, which was great.

Here are some example photos...there's virtually nothing special about these; they are strictly documentary photographs, but they show the performance of the Godox flash nicely when used in TTL mode with the flash mounted "on-camera" in the camera's hot shoe.

This shot of Marketing Directors Matt and Stephanie is a nice example as they were both pretty strongly backlit from this angle, and the Godox providing excellent fill while not blowing out the background.

Godox (and Neewer) have changed the pro photo game. My travel gear now fits in a single backpack. Used to have bulky batteries and cords and crap (Alien Bees had their own Pelican case), now Godox has effective, inexpensive gear that is a fraction of the size/cost of the traditional gear they’re replacing.

The only gear I had an issue with was the X1 transmitter. Was only getting 3-4 successful flashes out of every 10. Had to go back to my pocket wizards. Have you tried using the flash off body, and if do what are you using for a trigger?
