Gus the horse and Keke the kitty make friends
About five weeks ago some one abandoned a tiny little 6 week old kitten on the road next to my property and home. This little kitty managed to make its way through the trees and was hiding under a shed Marlene uses as a shop. Marlene heard a faint little meow one morning and called me outside. It took me about half an hour to encourage the kitty to come out from under the shed but once out she was quick to purr when petted. She was so skinny you could feel the points on each of her vertebrae. Marlene instantly adopted the kitty and named it Kekie. In the five weeks since finding her Marlene has fed her plenty of food and clean water, and keeps her in the shed at night. She has grown almost twice her size and weight and is turning out to be a playful and sweet little kitten. She will be an outside cat that gets put inside the shed at night to be safe, and has already begun exploring. She discovered Gus, Marlene's palomino Quarter Horse. Over the past week Kekie and Gus have been making friends. I'm sure they are destined to be good pals. These photos were taken this afternoon.

That’s great. It’s just amazing how animals get along. I have a Rottie who hung out with a black & white Dutch Rabbit. They became best friends. The rabbit was kept in a crate in our house. One morning I was calling Jerry our Rottie and he would not leave the rabbit Buttons crate. He always listened to me. I went over to the crate and Buttons had pass sa

Thank you Dan and Marlene for taking care of Kekie.
A very sweet story indeed. |
that's too cute Dan !

Such a wonderful story Dan!
You and Marlene have big hearts and the pictures are perfect. Looks like everyone is getting along nicely and Kekie is happy and healthy. |
I recall you mentioning finding Kekie on your property and Marlene adopting it on the spot. Cool pictures Dan.
Best Sir, Bob |
awesome Dan.. Now if people could be the same huh!
|
Very nice pictures Dan. There are so many abandoned cats that end up feral, it’s great to see one rescued like this and taken into a loving home.
|
Dan, I would think the kitten would love to be in your lap and listen to music.
|
Marlene said to tell you all how much she appreciates the heartwarming comments.

Dan... Great story and photos; thanks for sharing. Who would have thought beneath that hardened, weathered exterior :D lurks...
|
super cute. Great pictures!

That’s awesome Dan! Who knows what would of happened to that little cat if she didn’t find you guys to give her a good chance at a happy family life.

Kekie loves to play in Gus' hay. Every morning when Marlene feeds her horse, the kitty goes right in the stall and jumps on the hay. The other day Kekie was laying on his back letting Gus lick his belly. Gus is real gentle with the kitten. It is amazing to watch the two of them together. The two of them have become real pals.

Great story Dan

OMG, he's soooo cute. What a wondeful story, Dan.
I can only imagine how mischievous he is getting. You could rename him "Keke" after the Finnish F1 driver, Keke Rosberg. Just a thought! ;) After Lucky's passing in January (sniff! :tears:), I adopted two kittens from the Dublin SPCA in mid-August: Ringo, male, who was 4 mos. old at the time, and Aga, who was 3 mos. old. Ringo is a sleek muscular male black leopard. Aga is a slender black and white "tuxedo" cat that was originally named Agnes, but she's too classy for that, so I named her Aga after the pro Czech tennis player, Aga (Agnieska) Radwanska, as Aga Cat is slender but athletic like Aga Radwanska, but also has a TON of personality. Here's Aga when she was about 3 1/2 months old...sitting in the Giottos table top studio light box.... http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...age/Cats-2.jpg And that rascal Ringo getting in the act... http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...ngo%20copy.jpg They've been growing up FAST....witness this photo from a week or so ago of Aga sleeping in my desk chair... http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...timage/Aga.jpg And Ringo, sitting on top of the Epson office printer. He used fit on this, but is getting too big now (BTW, he's allowed up on the ledge this printer is on, but NOT the kitchen counter in the background). http://photos.imageevent.com/puma_ca...%20Printer.jpg Ringo's jumping and athletic abilities are going off the charts, and he is constantly getting into mischief. But it's wonderful having them around. |
Stephen.......Aga and Ringo are lucky rescue cats to have been adopted by you. They are good looking cats that are obviously being well taken care of.
I was showing Marlene this thread last night. She is enjoying seeing everyone's cats. She told me I spelled Keke's name wrong in the thread. There is no "i" in the way she spells it as it is recorded in the vet's records. So Keke it is and has been from the beginning. My mistake to have misspell it Kekie. I now stand corrected. |
Here are a few photos of Keke taken this morning. He is getting bigger by the day.
Keke hiding in the hay in the feed room. He's not fooling Gus. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4479/...56aa82a1_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4513/...0aaef722_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4478/...55bea1d9_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4528/...2c84f0c2_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4551/...a883587b_b.jpg |
Great pics Dan! Keke seems really happy and is growing by leaps and bounds. The outdoors is good for any animal.
|
Keke has pretty eyes!
Thanks for sharing the pics, Dan. |

I've never understood how people can be so cruel by abandoning an innocent animal. Dan, thank you so much to you and your wife for showing compassion.

Keke has been growing fast. He is now 9 months old by our estimation of his age when we first found him meowing and hiding under a shed on my property. Marlene and I believe he was born mid July 2017 and was only about six weeks old when we found him in August. This photo was taken October of last year when Keke was 3 months old.
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4473/...c3c8007b_b.jpg The picture below was taken yesterday in Gus's feed room. Keke still loves to play and hide in the hay bales. He is turning out to be a fun pet. Marlene and Keke are great friends, and Gus and Keke play together all the time. Keke is still growing. He's turning into a big boy. https://farm1.staticflickr.com/912/2...89181a90_b.jpg |
Gus the horse and Keke the kitty make friends
He’s grown into a beautiful cat - and clearly well-fed and cared for [emoji846] Well done Dan and Marlene.
