Rugby Legend 'Sir Colin "Pinetree" Meads dead at 81yrs
Pinetree Meads was my hero growing up in the late 60's early 70's. Ill never forget our class at School when I was 8 years old, following the Lions Tour of NZ & that famous last test at Eden Park- Like Colin, I wanted to cry.
Images of him running with the ball in one hand ( a rugby ball is much bigger than an American Football Ball) & my favourite photo of him just about to 'clock' Taranaki Loose Forward Allan Scherp in the New Zealand XV v The Rest match in 1966. (he didn't throw the punch in the end!) http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post...ads-what-to-do New Zealand is in mourning- Pinetree was the equivalent of Babe Ruth in the USA & Sir Don Bradman in Aussie- a legend! Cancer is a bastard! Arguably the 'toughest sportsman ever-no exaggeration- played a whole game with a broken arm. http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/a...ees-has-fallen http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news...ectid=11896202 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Meads |
