nice set up !!, have you tried bringing the 802's a bit further into the room ?

thesaint519 10-02-2015 09:11 AM

VERY NICE!! Do you have any issues with imaging or soundstage since your room is open on the right side of your studio? How do you compensate for that, if you do?

I have moved the position around over the last few weeks, they are now 30cm / 11.8" from the rear wall. Sounding pretty good :)

Not that I have noticed, however I would probably have limited options to resolve it even if I did.

That said, I am planning for a new dedicated 'closed' room which will be built from the ground up with acoustic treatments (floor, walls, ceiling).

Some nice audio porn you have going on there. You're photography is little of a tease as some of the photos show only a portion of what I wanted to see. I have always thought the 800 Series Diamond speakers have a very appealing look to them.

Congrats...

Outstanding!

thesaint519 10-25-2015 12:52 PM

Ok. It's obvious that this is a world class system that few on the planet would ever be able to afford or even listen to, with a refined elegance that is exemplified in its simplicity, and high end pieces that anyone in the know would drool over as they secretly covet a system like yours; but, how does it sound?

Congrats! Superb!

krustycat 10-25-2015 03:21 PM

Congrats!

Amazing system, I like the fact that the 802 D2's down fire the air from the cabinets so that you can bring them close to the walls, if you cannot fix issues with acoustic panels just add a MEN220 that will fix any remaining issues you may have.

vinod_david 10-26-2015 04:53 AM

Wow, really high-end setup.

Definately an improvement over my stock HDMI cable. Dynamics and vocals come across better. Did a few A/B passes, very pleased with the result.

Now that you've got 'em home and set up, what are some of the differences between the 802s and the new Sashas?

rns 11-15-2015 12:39 PM

Stunning!!! Thank you for sharing these pictures. Can't wait to hear your impressions. Congrats

Long story short, from day 1 when I pushed play on the first song (Diana Krall) I was very disappointed with the bass output and the midrange didn't seem to have any sparkle and over the next 3 months spent countless hours trying to resolve it.

Everything from 14 day/12 hour burn-in to speaker placement to electronics. I interchanged every single component and cable, but still the results were the same.

As a result, I had to have Tone Controls enabled with the Bass set to 75% boost and Treble set to 25%. The sound was better, but it lacked the low end punch, so I then purchased a subwoofer. I set it to 80Hz at about 60% volume.

At this point the sound was fairly good, but I felt very disappointed that I had to compensate with bass boost and a subwoofer.

I was also hamstrung in my search for a new preamp, as most high-end units do not have Tone Controls.

Pricing wise the 802D2s retail for AUD$21k and the Sasha's are AUD$65k.

Comparing the 802s to the Sasha's in all honestly is not fair at all, everything from the Sasha's bass output, to the mids and highs are not only better they make the 802s sound dull, lifeless and muffled.

The huge improvement in the midrange and highs is so beautiful and clear, but still liquid smooth.

I now have Tone Controls DISABLED and the Subwoofer is OFF.

I should have listened to a number of members on this forum recommending the Sasha's, however I decided to go on a Random Walk of Self-Discovery. At the end of the day it expended a huge number of hours and it cost extra $$$$, but I now know just how bloody good the Wilson's are!

The Sasha is a keeper ;)

Congrats!
Maybe the best looking Wilson I'v ever seen, also thanks to you great pictures! Love the color.

sandecker 11-22-2015 05:30 AM

Congratulation audiohippo!

Fantastic photos of great products. The Sashas are beautiful ;-)

Randy Myers 01-23-2016 01:39 AM

vinod_david 01-23-2016 10:08 AM

Wow, awesome work.

chessman 01-23-2016 11:08 AM

Nick, that looks great!

j3brow 01-23-2016 12:41 PM

Fantastic!

krustycat 01-23-2016 01:14 PM

You have made a 180 degree switch, and looks terrific!

How are you liking a fully tube sound now?

Enjoy :music:

audiohippo 01-24-2016 07:08 PM

Its amazingly good. The soundstage has really opened up, mids are silky smooth and the bass is just so much improved. I am barely using the JL Audio F110 subwoofer.

My first DIY build, was a great experience and the sound quality is excellent! IMO they are superior to any bookshelf speaker I have heard under AUD$20k, matched with a 10" subwoofer they would require some stiff competition. I plan on using these in the office/studio.

The Scan Speak Illuminator is a tremendous driver. Smooth, clear, unreal bass for its size. I've got them in my Salk Silks with RAAL tweeters. Fantastic DIY, Audiohippo!

audiohippo 01-26-2016 04:10 AM

Thanks. They are really something special. I'm considering using a ARC + Pass combo to power them.

sunshdw 01-26-2016 12:31 PM

Beautiful system!! I bet that ARC/Wilson combo is magical

audiohippo 01-27-2016 09:34 AM

Absolutely! I was listening to the system until the very early hours of the morning over the weekend. The sound is truly captivating.

chops-tube 01-29-2016 12:16 AM

Now we're talking!

I've always preferred the Wilson Audio sound over the B&W sound. Also, Wilson and ARC has always been one of my favorite combos for years.

I think you made the right move and made some great choices with your current setup.

I wish that gear was within my reach, but it isn't. If it ever was, I'd hunt myself down a mint pair of Wilson Cub Series 2's and a new ARC front end.

Thanks for sharing your new gear!

Randy Myers 01-29-2016 11:21 AM

Congratulations! The setup looks fantastic. I wish ARC and Wilson Audio was in my budget. Unfortunately at this point it is not, but who know what the future will bring :)...

geodiak 02-04-2016 05:50 AM

very nice setup ,Fantastic !

audiohippo 03-01-2016 04:24 AM

Bryston SP3 + 9B-SST2 in Silver have been unboxed and hooked up.

First impressions is the soundstage is more dynamic and open (especially the center channel, voices are crystal clear) compared to the Denon 3808a AVR they replaced. Even using in-wall/ceiling speakers (new speakers incoming soon!) the sound is excellent just contributes so much to the cinema experience.

I do miss the on-screen menu display though!

EfeTe 03-01-2016 07:32 PM

Congratulations mate, those in silver MUST be viewed by fellow audio enthusiasts e.g. we need pictures! :)

Wasatch 06-14-2016 09:53 PM

Very nice looking system. Enjoy!

akfaulkner 06-15-2016 12:28 AM

Wow, nice layout!

imprezap2 06-15-2016 06:30 AM

Hi Audiohippo,

Enjoy your coming audio room, 1 suggestion make sure that the distance of the speakers to your sidewalls are not the same as the distance to the rear wall.
