Kahuna's New System
Hi all!
Well we finely moved out of our house where we had resided since 1997...it was time for a change! With that I had on my shopping list a theater room (though not as big a deal to me as it used to be), but more importantly a dedicated audio room...which I have never had! We moved in during the summer and it is still very much a work in progress, but I am enjoying the sound out of the new system so much, I never get it all cleaned up! I started with digital only, wanted to get everything right with power and layout first, then plan to use my old Turntable (Pioneer Exclusive P10 Direct drive vintage machine), along with adding a new one. Here is the layout so far; Power: Shunyata Everest fed by Omega XR from Furtech GTX-D Outlet. Shunyata SigmaV2 VR to amp & DAC, Interconnects & Speaker Cables: Shunyata SigmaV2 Integrated Amplifier; Dartzeel CTH-8550 Mk II DAC; Esoteric N-01xd Server; Roon Nucleus +/UpTone EtherREGEN/English Electric 8switch/ Shunyata Sigma Ethernet cables Speakers; Stenheim Alumine threes Subs; REL S812 x 6 A few pics, will be adding some more soon... https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=5570 https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=5572 https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=5573 https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=5574 https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=5555 https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=5571 My buddy in the chair! |

A few words about the sound...obviously I am coming from a completely different room, different speaker setup and power...only the Roon Nucleus+ & Esoteric player/DAC are the same. My previous system was Ayre MX-R Preamp, with MX-R amps into Wilson Sabrinas. I still have that system and hope to plug the Wilson's in beside my new speakers and do a comparison sometime.
In the meantime, I would describe the current setup sound as effortless, fairly neutral with lots of space between the instruments as well as a nice large soundstage. The drama that the subs can bring is absolutely stunning! I would say they are 80% dialed in...I will continue to try and tune them better. In the end this system is just so much fun to listen to...I have not had a session less than 3 - 4 hours since setting it up...I just can't stop trying to find music to listen to on it. Cheers! |
Looks great. Looking for your additional comments.

Great set up and wow, those subs!! How do you find the difference with the Dartzeel amp?
|
Subs galore!
That is very sweet! May I ask, how wide is your room? I have 2 subs, JL Audio and thinking of trying Wilson Maxx 3 or entry level Alexx, not sure if my 10 foot wide room would support all of this. And btw.. that Eames chair looks excellent. Looking for one soon. Thanks! Fred |
Sweet setup - looks like a lot of enjoyment ahead!

Absolutely gorgeous system. I have to say that your choice of Swiss components is impeccable. I am sure the darTZeel CTH-8550 integrated and Stenheim Alumine Three complement each other sonically. The REL stack seems a perfect compliment to the Alumine three's from what I can read about the speaker. The Esoteric seems a superb choice for a CD/DAC. The ancillary gear well thought out. I like the way you have the subs in the same plane as the speakers. I can see why you are so pleased with the sound. Congratulations on a fabulous accomplishment!

Fantastic looking system. What drove you to get so many subs? Wouldn't a pair be sufficient, what does the 6-pack give you? Just curious, I don't have any subs but have been thinking about it.

The Dart seems to throw a wider/deeper soundstage than my Ayre setup, probably doesn't have quite as much power, but only noticeable if you are absolutely cranking it. Maybe just a touch more detail or something out of the Dart as well, hard to tell...I didn't do any side by side comparisons though... |

I was inspired by a Tone Magazine review on the REL Line Array: https://www.tonepublications.com/review/relno25sixpack/ and always wanted to try it. There is also a great explainer from REL themselves on the reasoning: https://rel.net/blog/2016-10-11/syst...e-line-arrays/ Overall, it is the effortless way that the bottom end of the music is handled that I find so addictive...the bottom subs handle the very lowest bass, the mids cover the mid level bass, and the top subs cover the highest of the bass, think guitar strings etc. I really loved the sound of the Alumine threes on their own, but once you add this level of bass support, it is so much more realistic. I'm not listening to it like someone with 15" subs buzzing out of their 87 Nissan, it's all dialed in...though as mentioned above, I have no doubt, room to improve that still. Cheers! |

Wonderful indeed!
Very well executed. I love the stacks! |
Nicely done. 👍🎶🎶🎶
What song was playing when you took the photo with your dog? |
Outstanding setup. I’m sure the REL 6-pack does a great job of integrating the bass and improving soundstage.
Cheers from across the border just east of Bellingham. |
Wow OP! What a terrific setup. Well executed too. At first I thought...Why 6 subs? But then I realized..., Why Not!
For a first true 2 channel room you certainly nailed it. |

“There is no replacement for displacement”.
Beautiful setup…what a joy to have a dedicated music room…enjoy in good health. |
Great system! Stenheim is one of may favorite speakers. I love their sound. Some extra deep low from Rel is probably perfect.
|
Love it! Nice to see the subs are running in full force. :) My cup of tea!
|
Awesome set-up! Would love to hear how the frequencies are managed. I assume the Stenheim's are run full range?
|
Thanks Trigg!
I am using the REL hook up method, direct full range to both the speakers and the subs. You then tune the subs based on their location, with the bottom being the deepest base, the next up the low to mid bass and the top the upper mid bass. Great vid on it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0IgdeSheak |
Really interesting. Kahuna thanks for initiating. Great minimalistic system with maximal sub integration.

Very nice, awesome TT.

Wow nice system. All I keep thinking about is the Meghan Trainor Song -
Because you know I'm all about that bass 'Bout that bass, no treble I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble I'm all about that bass, 'bout that bass (bass, bass, bass, bass) |
Mike… Very nicely done! :homer: :homer: :homer: :homer:
