I'm looking for a new more powerful amp for my B&Ws as well. Any recommendations for a pre/amp combination or integrated in the ~$3k range.

I have a large room (L28xW26xH8-11ft) and sit about 14' from the speakers. Would like ~200 watts. I have a few amps on my shortlist but would like to see what other members with B&W speakers might suggest. Tone, timbre and power or more of priority for me than ultimate detail and resolution. Thanks for any suggestions.

Cheers,

Scott

SS or Tubes ? budget ?

I'm going to give you two from both camps that are superb values IMO .......

SS - Parasound JC-1 monblocks - msrp less than 10k

tube - Rogue Audio, Apollo 'Dark' - msrp 15k

check 'em out, if you find better value / performance at their respective price points let me know, cause I haven't ............

My current set up: SME 10 with Benz LP-S,ML 36S DAC, ML 37 CD Transport, Pass Xono, Pass Xp20 pre; Kimber Select wires (silver XLR and copper speakers) By far the best sound is with Karan KAS 600. True magic...

I have a Classe CA2300 with 300 watts per channel that doubles down into 4 ohms which sounds great but I am wondering about the new Bryston 14B cubed which puts out 600 watts per channel and what the synergy would be with my 802D3's. I have a large room and normally more power is better but as many will tell you it is not necessarily about the amount of power by the quality.

Now if you can have both at the same time more power to you.

I didn't go the SS amp route with my 804D3s. I ended up with an integrated tube amp that better fits with my SQ preference for music.

It's a great amp, and in fact one of the best I've ever heard, and although I've not heard the combo I think it would be perfect for 800 series D3's.

It's also very sad that the guy who designed it passed away suddenly at a relatively young age.

I actually looked into that one, but need HT bypass which the PM10 doesn't have.

Thanks for the response. I have a Bryston dealer near me that does not have this unit in the store and I was hoping I could borrow one for an evaluation. I will see if this is something I could work out. I am sure I could bring home a 4B cubed but this is essentially the same rated output as the Classe and it does not double down.

The other concern I have which James Tanner answered is I have my amplifier in an enclosed cabinet and I do not meet the clearance above the top which I am short by one inch however I exceed the clearance at the rear and sides. He said I should not have a problem however I am concerned about the heat. The Classe has a tunnel cooling system which works very well and the unit always stays at a constant temperature.
