Transformer induced EMI Hum
If you have Transformer induced EMI Hum, ie: having a Pre-Amp or similar component in very close proximity to a Power Unit, or Power Amp, I have the solution for you.
This device: HARApad EMF Protection - Radiation & Heat Shield really works. It will support heavy weight, and doubles as a heat shield. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....bL._SX425_.jpg https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Simply place this under the component(s) you feel are being adversely affected. At only .25” thick it becomes an invisible shield, and will solve your problem. As long as the hum is not volume dependent (gets louder with your volume/gain control) you more than likely have an EMI issue. |
Being one of their dealers, I'm surprised you don't suggest Stillpoints ERS cloth.
"The ERS (EMI/RFI Suppression) material redirects, absorbs, and diffuses EMI/RFI frequencies." |

Looks like a reasonable product that doesn't cost a fortune but I am unable to find any reviewers or user statements using it for audio improvement. :scratch2:
What say you............... Ron |

It removed a low level hum that my BAX-1 was picking up sitting directly on top of 2 BIT15’s. |

I already bought a few extras just to keep around, in case these are not available down the road.

I may try one under my phono preamp which sits above my amp.
Thanks! Ron |

The Stillpoints ERS can be fixed to the interior of component cabinets and it can also be positioned anywhere without fixing it in place - permanance is not a requirement for use. The product is sold with and without a sticky backing. It can be placed just about anywhere, not just under a component. Stillpoints ERS can be ordered in different sizes and/or cut to a size requirement. The HARApad is hard acrylic and A'zon comments suggest it cannot be cut. The HARApad is designed for laptops: "protects the laptop user from harmful electromagnetic radiation and EMF" and "The HARApad uses lead- and tungsten-free, military-grade electromagnetic radiation shielding to attract the extremely low frequency (ELF) radiation emitted by laptop computers." Do audio components emit ELF radiation? Using specific materials does not make the product "military grade". ERS is meant for EMI/RFI, known issues to audiophiles. The HARApad advert does not mention EMI/RFI. I have not used the HARApad, but A'zon comments suggest it doesn't measure very well with a Trifield EMF/RFI meter. I'm not saying it does not work, just that there are other options from a well known company. |
