Harbeth Monitor 40.1 driven by McIntosh MC225 amplifier

SPL is between 75 and 85 dB.

I 'm downloading now a vid with the system
playing the heavy bass WhiteWorld of Patricia Barber and the Wonderful World of Eva Cassidy.

The aim of these vids is not to show the quality of the sound. Impossible without a decent recorder.
But to show that the Harbeth 40.1 are not tough to drive with a quality 25 W amplifier like the MC225.

I am now comparing with the same tunes the Shindo Corton Charlemagne Q monoblocks ( 2 x 70 W in class A on 8 ohm ) with the 2 x 30 W in AB class of the McIntosh MC225.

Very disturbing.

The big Shindo are a bit more transparent and resolved and at the same time a bit sweeter sounding. They put some more degrees of weight on the music and seem to go deeper in the bass. Overall the ambiance of the recording is better resolved by the Shindo amps. But the McIntosh sounds more alive and faster. The PRaT factor seems to be on the little Mc side. The little Mc is more joyful.

The stereo images are identical. As for richness and variety of timbres.

I love both and frankly I could not say which one is better. While the CCQ clearly killed the big 2301's !
This is a real testimony for the 225.
Big Big LOVE of this so called " little amp". It is a real beast.

Needless to say that I asked Mike Sastra at AC to find me an other 225....:D

Hi Tommy....
Thanks.
Well, when I'm listening and not playing with them in the room they act like bad boys to attract my attention. Hopefully they are very small cats. They do not damage anything.

Jérôme... you can always put your furry friend in the Circus to fund your next upgrade. :D

Jérôme.......In the first video when the music began to play I was a bit disappointed.......no stripper. :D

I was drawn more to the music in your second video. I viewed it full screen and sort of felt like I was there with you. Your room looks really nice. The acoustics compliment the Harbeth's and the MC225 sound smooth as silk.

By the way, check your signature. You have the MC225 shown as a MA225.
