And, I am leaning towards selling my upgraded KT-150 and LP-2 as I have moved away from tubes. I've already been selling off my backup tubes. I've been using a First Watt J2 without a preamp (DAC serves as preamp). Last weekend, I brought out the KT-150. Immediately my brain started the obsessive process about which tubes..... :sigh:

So a kind of farewell, though I continue to read here daily and post occasionally. And am still an Omega guy and on that forum.

edit: I was not and am not buying selling or trading here! Jeeesh!

If you have not already, before you sell that KT150, try a pair of 6f6 metal tubes. Dennis, Tony and I cannot seem to get enough of them.

I ain't fair. You NC boys have Aunt Bea's pies and 6F6's. I KNOW the pies are special but what's so cool about 6F6's? How are they in triode? :scratch2:

The 6f6 (especially the metal) have a full rich sound to them. A tonal quality that I have not found for a while in my rolling experience. Interestingly they provide a more full low end than others as well, even though they are the least powerful tube I can run on mine Inspires. I turn down my sub gain when running them. Of course I also turn up the Pre gain.

Both my Inspires are SEP. Tony can likely weigh in on the 6f6 in a SET. I think he has an amp 'strapped' Triode. Not sure how comparable it is to yours. Maybe new OPTs and front end at this point.

Anyway, they are inexpensive. As low as $20/pr for NOS, so not a big investment if you do not like them. They do smell pretty awful when they are burning the paint on. Maybe for :15 minutes you will have to open a window.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. Haven't tried 6F6. Did try 6K6, 6AR6, of course 6V6.

But we are looking at moving within a year or two for semi-retirement downsizing, so simplification is taking precedence.

I love me some metal 6F6's, but these metal 6L6's are special too, I have not done a thorough comparison of the two (maybe this weekend). But i'm back in Pentode mode again, with a shiny new dual choke power supply running a 5AR4 (to compensate for voltage lost in the second choke), and a front end that to my ears, sounds better with 6SL7's...IMHO...

I'll try me some metal RCA's. My amp is triode strapped and I guess they will be 1.5 watts or so in it. http://i65.tinypic.com/2ch9rlx.jpg

BTW, I bought one of the Sophia blue glass 6SN7's. The reviews are spot on. :music:

I have a pair of RCA's on the way. I had a Jeff Korneff 45 and with EML solid plates the bass was exemplary.

Interesting in that I went the other direction. I retired and downsized and decided to go more into tubes, getting rid of all of my vintage gear and some of my SS stuff.

But being single allows me to set up my living room as a man cave. My long-term Von Schweikert tower speakers are too large for my new smaller space, but I can't bring myself to get rid of them. And in the smaller space, my 17wpc Inspire does a much better job in driving them.

There's no way I could power my speakers with 1.5 watts. Even 5 watts is a stretch, with limited peaks. I'd like to have a PSE with 25 wpc.

I just couldn't do it. I had listed the LP-2 and KT150. But the last time I took a look at my ad, I just felt affection for them (I know, I know). I know I would miss them before long and they are irreplaceable.

So there you have it!
