4th quarter new BDP-103 and BDP-105
 

Here is what I see so far

The BDP-103 and BDP-105 will continue to support 3D but will also add 4K scaling, supporting a image that is 4K by 2K. The BDP-105 will also feature a headphone amp, better supply, and two HDMI outs.

The BDP-105 is larger than the BD-95 so you will need a new rack. The BDP-95 was designed to fit in a 2U shelf, while the BDP-105 is designed for a 3U s

New or Enhanced BDP-103/105 Shared Features:

Latest generation QDEO which supports 4K upscaling
2x2 HDMI. Two HDMI inputs; Two HDMI outputs.
The Front HDMI input supports MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) which allows some of the newer smartphones to be connected direct to the player and transmits the phones screen to the television. This also allows for ROKU Stick support.

Newest Netflix interface which supports 1080p video, multi-channel audio, subtitle and alternative language selection, and Family Interface

Gracenote for looking up media information such as album art, artist, album, and track information for your CD, SACD, and user generated media
Backlit Eject buttons. No more thumbing around in the dark.

No more analog video. There is a "DIAG" port, but this is to only see the OPPO UI when there is no media playback. So for those of you who use a small monitor for media playback, you will need to upgrade to a DVI/HDMI capable display.

New BDP-105 Only Features:
Fanless (unlike the BDP-95)
Headphone Amplifier
Optical, Digital Coaxial and asynchronous USB DAC*
Properly oriented XLR outputs
Players will continue to be Universal, so DVD-Audio is definitely still supported.
With the USB DAC you can plug laptop directly to the Oppo?
IP Control to the player through a future firmware release


Some notes I read too:

"We might as well get this out of the way right off the bat. Both players are subject to Blu-ray licensing rules applicable to Stand-alone Player designs launched late in 2012.

That means no Analog video output (no Component video jacks) and inclusion of Cinavia anti-copy detection. Wikipedia has a write up on Cinavia for folks wanting to know the gory details. The short version is that it will be harder/impossible to play unauthorized copies of theatrical movie releases or commercial Blu-ray discs. The detection and playback prevention happens some minutes after a copy begins to play -- which sounds a bit sadistic, but there it is. OPPO has no control over how/when Cinavia works."

How much $$$?

Estimates are about the same $1000 us dollars for the 105 model but no firm prices yet

I've been a loyal Oppo owner for over 10 years. The new unit sounds like a winner!!

Dave.......Thanks for the heads up and the run down on the newest feature by models. Looks like the 105 will be the way to go. It is very intriguing to note that Oppo is introducing stand alone DAC capabilities. Do you have any information on the BDP-105 DAC's?

At this price, I can't think of anything that comes close to it. :thumbsup:

I do not but looks like the same sabre units are to be used as before, as soon as I hear more will post, unless someone beats me to it :)

For me Dan I would upgrade if after others and reviews prove it is as good as or sounds better than the 95.


But my heart is set on an 1100mcd for true high end.


However, all said, if it is as good or better, and with all the new feature for 1k if that is the final price you can not go wrong.

Dave.......I understand about the MCD1100. I like it so much I bought two of them. The Oppo BDP-95 approaches the MCD1100 performance level in a fashion, but does not surpass the MCD1100's faithfulness to the performance no matter the source. My Oppo BDP-95 does not serve my two channel studio system. It is in the multi-channel home theater system doing duty as a Blu-ray player and playing multi-channel SACD's. It's performance level surpasses its price point by a huge margin. Keep the dream alive for the McIntosh MCD1100. It is worth it.

I'm in on this new BDP. The features are too enticing, and the resale on my BDP 95 will be to solid not to make the move!
