Voltage fluctuations?
 

I have an odd thing happening where when listening to my system I get a "glitch" in the sound whenever something else with a large current draw starts in my home. For example, I have a geothermal heating and cooling system that is on its own 200 amp sub panel (I have 400 amp service to the house, the geo sub panel is connected to the main panel). When it kicks on, I get a very brief moment where the sound cuts out on my system. There is no noise, no pop or crack, just a split second where the sound cuts out.

My system is super simple and consists of just a Mark Levinson 585 integrated amplifier with just a Sonos Connect serving as the source for streaming music. Both are connected to a PS Audio Dectet which is plugged in to the wall.

The odd thing is this never happened with my old Krell S300i integrated amp. I can only assume the new integrated amp is more sensitive to voltage fluctuations? Would something along the lines of a PS Audio Power Plant or some other regenerator cure the issue, or what might the answer be?

I don’t have a geothermal thingamabob in my home but I’ve found the biggest improvements came from
A. Running a dedicated circuit breaker to my Hi-Fi gear that isn’t shared with any other components in the house. (I actually ran 3)

B. Getting P15 and P20 regenerators for my analog and digital gear.

I agree with the P15/P20 regenerators to help and probably even eliminate the issue but I’d chat with PS Audio tech support. I’d also see if changing phases at the panel would help.

A corollary may be that your system is suffering all the time from power interference. So I agree whole-heartedly with the power regenerator idea. I've had great results with Nordost's QKore and QBase--a different way of skinning the same cat.

I have a voltage regulator, which boosts or cuts incoming power so as to maintain a steady 120v to my system. My air conditioner is on the same line as my system, but my system is unaffected by the cycling on and off of the air conditioner's compressor. I'm not familiar with the PS Audio units, but if voltage regulation is involved, that's good.

Much appreciated all, I figured I would wind up needing something a little more robust than the PS Audio Dectet (and most other power distribution units) to solve the problem. It's too bad PS Audio got rid of all their retailers and went factory direct. It would have been much easier to borrow something from my local dealer (they were a PS Audio dealer) and see if that fixed the issue rather than ordering one and having to return it back to PS Audio if it didn't solve the problem.

I have a similar problem as the OP, although I get a brief hum, may I ask what voltage regulation you are using?

I have a Furman SPR-20i, purchased from Ivan. It can handle up to 20 amps and has 12 outlets. Before this I had a Tripplite LCR2400, which is also a voltage regulator, but it didn't have protection for cable/satellite as the Furman does. Your unit has UPS, which the Furman doesn't.

I don't know your setup, but if you have cable TV connected to your system that could be the source of the hum. Or a ground loop, perhaps; those can be tricky to track down.

The unit I bought reduced the hum but didn't completely remove it. I'm looking at isolation transformers now.
