Wilson Audio WAMM Review

http://www.hifiplus.com/articles/wil...c-loudspeaker/

Enjoy, will be interesting to see how the tech trickles down.

I heard a rumor that the original number in the production run was fifty something pairs but there were people who wanted to use the new WAMM in all speaker positions in their home theater 5.1 set-up, hence the increase to 70 pairs! :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

2fastdriving 07-07-2017 10:01 PM

Not a rumor, came from Bill.

Multi channel music guys.

Peter McGrath among others does some pretty amazing 4 channel recordings.

Aspects of the WAMM have already trickled down to Alexx, Yvette, and the just introduced Alexia 2.

Just 2.7 million in speakers alone. Chump change :)

vintage_tube 07-08-2017 10:52 PM

Half that. 4 channel = 2 pairs.

Best sir,

Bob

Duh I guess I hadn't had my coffee yet when I wrote that.

bart 07-09-2017 04:34 PM

If these guys take multi-channel even a bit serious, they will have a 7.2 set-up.
If very serious, Auro-3D. That is 11 channels + subs.

Multi channel music is the one that is serious.

That other? Not so much.

I had a chance to hear these speakers a week ago, coupled with the new Wilson subwoofers made to match them, driven by Ypsilon Hyperion amplifiers and Ypsilon preamp and phono stage.

Oh, my. I'll likely never be able to afford them, so thank goodness I have a friend who can!

They replaced a pair of Alexandria XLF's in what is the best rig I've ever heard. And they took the sound to new levels, even as they were still settling in.

I went over to my friend's house again last Saturday night. The subwoofers have broken in, and the sound was even better.

Wow, now I believe you. What amps is he using? I see D'Agostino and also something else. How is that all set up?

Also are these Thor subs, or are they the new WAMM subs? I assume new WAMM subs. That's an all new product right? I've never seen a picture. Can't really see them in your picture.

wpascoe 07-25-2017 01:46 PM

The analogue system in use that night was Ypsilon Hyperion amps, Ypsilon preamp, Ypsilon phono stage (with silver wiring), Continuum Caliburn 'table, SAT tonearm, Etna SL cart, and a combination of Transparent and Nordost cabling.

He has the D'Agostino M400 amps, the D'Agostino preamp and D'Agostino phono stage ready to swap any time he wants.

And yes, that's a full dCS Vivaldi stack.

The subwoofers are the new WAMM subs. He had the Thor's subs matched to his previous Alexandria XLF's, but they're gone now.

Wow...this guy is clearly in the stratosphere. That's incredible. I bet you have never heard anything even close to that before, am I right? Do unicorns fly around the room?:scratch2:

wpascoe 07-25-2017 01:58 PM

Actually, I have. First time I ever heard a sound like that was in a mutual friend's basement listening room. He was running the same 'table with darTZeel monoblocks and preamp into Alexandria XLF's.

You're right, they're both in the stratosphere. The good news for them is, they do this for a living. Everyone on this site has been reading their reviews for years.

Ah, so you know Mr. Fremer

He went to Alexx's I guess. Interesting move, maybe best for his room size?

I haven't been in Michael's room since he made the switch to the Alexx's, but everyone I know who has heard them in his room agrees they are a better fit and sound better. Which means they must be awesome, because the rig I first heard at his place was gobsmackingly tremendous. The first cut he ever played for me was the Classic 45 RPM version of "Stairway to Heaven," and Robert Plant appeared to be hovering as an apparition right in front of me. I was hooked. :)

No words can express what your friend experiences on a daily basis - all I know is that it would be one hell of a room to decompress after a very stressful day.

Talk about the artist playing thru your friends system, whether it be analog or digital, knocking on the front door so to speak -- hustling thru the hallway to set up their equipment and magically appear in full force.

Maybe in my afterlife -- but, for now I have what I worked for nearly 50 years and I too, love what I have amassed & even though retired, I decompress with a bit of Robert Plant knocking on my front door too.

Best Sir & thanks for the picture,

Bob

Just curious. Are these in Virginia?

No.

This looks like Jacob's room (TAS). I recognize the setup from the many pictures.

Best Sir,

Bob

wpascoe 07-25-2017 11:23 PM

You might think that. I couldn't possibly comment. :)

vintage_tube 07-25-2017 11:35 PM

I could care less who owns it really -- whoever the lucky individual is -- he is in the super elite & only wish I knew him so I could experience what he hears everyday. The last time I had a major moment - listening to a friends Pipedreams with 2 (maybe 4) depth chargers 10 years ago. Never will forget.

Best Sir,

Bob

Wilson Audio WAMM Review

I posted the review but I didnt realize I never posted to a forum before. So I will see if the review actually got posted, maybe tomorrow.

wpascoe 10-19-2017 11:10 PM

Jacob's review of the Wilson Master Chronosonic is the cover story of the October issue of The Absolute Sound.

Humble Brag Alert: I gave him 1,000 points for finding a way to put my name in the same sentence as the word "eleemosynary," but deducted 500 points for not once, but twice, using the word "pellucid" or a variation thereof.
