804D3 vs 803D3

Hey guys,

I ordered the 804D3 yesterday but half of me still think of the 803D3. Is it a big step up?

I have listened to them a few times at Magnolia. The room is 16x20 dedicated.

I just love the 803 design (head).

Yes, if you have the $, change it for the 803's.

Very meaningful step up!

Big difference!
Indeed, if you have the dough, go for the 803 D3s.

I never listened to the 804D3's, but I traded in a pair of 804D2's for the 803D3's. One I put 150 hours on them, I haven't looked back!

Got it. I was able to audition at Magnolia this morning and then talked the dealer for the swap.

Does anybody have the exact measurement of the outside box the the 803d3? I have a tacoma truck with a 6ft bed.

Btw, I notice the Marlin head & tweeter do move a lot on the display models. The 802 were the sturdiest.

Yes. I compared the two directly and the 803D3 is better by far, more open sounding, not as harsh probably from the larger midrange driver. THe port being positioned towards the ground seems to give a more even response with regards to SBIR.

Hah. I was going to suggest that you buy joey v's 802 D3's so he could feel better enabled to move along to the 800 D3's! Unless he already has. I have a hard time keeping up....

Btw, the head of the D3's is no longer Marlin, but a one piece aluminium diecast.

Their published specs show that the 804D3 and 803D3 both use the same midrange driver. I am sure that the radically different cabinet design makes quite a difference though.
