thanks for all the info folks. Yep must have 4k and the audio as I mentioned for surround is always a deal breaker for me. HDMI surround is great but still lacks a bit as far as hear.

The 901 is still on Mac's website as well, I noted. |
Resurrecting this thread.
The MVP901 still shows up on the McIntosh website, but a local shop contacted McIntosh and they were told that they no longer make this model. I've been on a hunt to find a used one, strictly because it's a Mac and would complement my MX121 and MC7205. Don't need or want 4k. The OPPO 103 I own does a good job upconverting to 4K. |

Thanks.

For what it is worth, I have had the MVP891 (glitchy), 901 (stable) and Oppo 203, 205. The MVP901 is the best of the group IMHO. I also have the MX122. Really great for 5.1 surround sound SACDs. If you find a good used MVP901, get it. They do not come up very often. It is versatile and pairs well with the MX processors.

Thanks for your input. It appears to be difficult finding a 901. I've been seriously looking into a good sounding stand alone CD/SACD player, but I have an OPPO 103 and it does good for what it is. Considered a 205 for the better dacs, but I keep coming back to the 901.
From what I've been able to see and read, it's menu system software is very much like the OPPO and that would make it simple for a simpleton to migrate to a different player. Again, from all accounts, the sonic quality would be a lot better than the 103, and visually, it complements the equipment I have. |
