ASC Smart Traps The Real Deal
1 Attachment(s)
Well I added some ASC Smart Traps from Jeff at A/V solutions.
I order six 13" X 3'. I put two in each corner, one to the side of each speaker and moved the real traps behind the speakers. I had originally two Mondo Real Traps in the corner and two ASC art panels on the side wall for a couple of years. Never really noticed a difference in sound. But after adding these tubes there was a dramatic difference in the sounds lower end was less muddy and crisper also the upper end tighten up and was more focused. It was like I installed new speakers. Not that the ASC was better than the tube traps but actually the presence of more acoustic really made things apparent. Now I'm contemplating ordering four 16" tube traps for the corners and moving the 13" behind the speakers. The diffusion on half of this tubes is real bonus. https://www.audioaficionado.org/atta...2&d=1364751742 " Acoustic Sciences Corporation (ASC) SmartTrap Reviewed |
The thicker ones certainly will show some difference in the very low end. You likely won't notice a huge difference between the two if you were to switch them out, but some subtle things will be more noticeable, like the separation between the kick drum and a bassline. The same goes for when thick traps are replaced by thicker traps. Mostly, everything stays the same, and you just get some bonus absorption shifted lower in frequency.
Of course you could always run a test in your room to decide whether you actually need thicker ones or not or if a few simple panels will really be all you need. |
Congratulations John,
I'm glad you heard an improvement. I love your setup. |
I know first hand how satisfying it is to have get what your looking for. Room treatment will no longer be at the bottom of my list, thanks to GIK :thumbsup:
