So long Toys R Us. The retail apacolypse

In what is becoming a long and sad list of retail bankruptcies and closures, the iconic Toys R Us is finished. After 69 years, Toys R Us is closing 700 stores, liquidating assets and 33,000 employees will be losing their jobs.

A retail apocalypse? With another 23 big retailers closing stores this year, 6700 store closings in 2017 alone, some 8600 stores projected to close in 2018, America will lose some 147 million square feet or retail space this year.

Times sure are changing fast. :scratch2:

So long Toys R Us, the countless trips to your stores with the kids, their smiles, their excitement and happy faces from toddlers to nearly teen years will always remain in my memories. Hardly able to contain their excitement as they would run into the store and browse for that latest Lego set, or a puzzle, a board game or the latest toys that was all the buzz, along the countless isles of all the great toys neatly sitting on shelves waiting for the kids to take them home was always a treat for the kids.

Opening a box from Amazon with that next toy the parents bought online can never replace the actual shopping experience at what must have been the absolute favorite place to visit for any kid. Where magic happened and dreams came true.... So long Geoffrey the Giraffe, the kids will miss you. :tears:

They disappeared here already a while ago...

It's not as much a retail apocalypse but rather, another raped company by private equity - loaded up with debt and destined to fail.

Are these pictures from some sci-fi flick about an apocalyptic future? Sadly these are the pictures from the present.. With more to come. :sigh:

Well for us parents of grown kids and even during our kid years, Toys R Us was the place where magic happened.
For today's kids not so much, they do not connect as we did. A couple of clicks and toys are on the way..

Not sure I understand "today's kids do not connect"? What choice do they have other than getting a toy out of the box that was left at the doorstep if that is all that parents offer? :scratch2: What kid does not connect with a toy store?

I mean they do not connect with going to a store like we did as kids to get our toys. To your point, toys show up on the doorstep delvd in a truck. Kids today are fine with that...
