So I did an EMF sweep of my system
 

Not sure why I didn't think of it before but I had the idea of doing an EMF sweep of my system.

What is EMF? An electromagnetic field (also EMF or EM field) is a physical field produced by electrically charged objects. It affects the behavior of charged objects in the vicinity of the field.

We obviously want to protect our fragile signals flowing through our cables and preserve them. Any EMF leakage that is near your system is bad news for sound in general.

I will elaborate later after formulating some thoughts, doing more tests and thinking this post through carefully. :D

The early indicators are:

1. My Richard Grey Power Conditioner will have to go. It was scary to see the EMF levels on that silly old thing. It was literally twice the EMF reading than any other cable or component in my system. :no: A dinosaur! :D

2. The wonderful Keces power conditioner is so well shielded it was hard to detect it above background levels away from the system at all! Wow.... :thumbsup:

3. The WireWorld Power cords absolutely rock as far as EMF readings go. Once again, plug to plug, it was barely any higher than background level readings. :thumbsup:

4. PrimaLuna surprisingly was lower than Luxman in EMF readings and barely above background. I will have to do more tests here and substitute a few variables around to get a true grip on this situation. :yes:

I will be doing some more testing and perhaps make a brief video of it!

What EMF "scanner" are you using, Serge?

I've been thinking of doing exactly the same thing.

BTW, I'll bet my Keces P3 linear power supply is pretty quiet, with respect to EMF, too. The chassis sides are all 3mm thick solid aluminum to prevent EMF from the toroidal transformer from escaping. BTW, In addition to its performance, was impressed with the fit 'n finish, execution and packaging of my P3. All first-class.

I tried a few apps for the iPhone so far. The results of the one app seem to be very stable and repeatable. Now, if it is off on accuracy, at this point of the preliminary testing, it doesn't really matter all that much. I'm only interested in seeing the "spikes" in real time as I sweep the system. :yes:

So even if it is off on accuracy, a reading that is suddenly much, much higher is still indicative of a problem! The main point is that it seems to be very repeatable. So even if the readings are slightly off on the actual numbers in MicroTesla or millgauss readings of a more accurate meter, I can see the proportional increase which is sufficient for this purpose.

A more accurate EMF meter can be purchased on Amazon for $30 like this one for example. Not sure if it is of any benefit for a basic sweep of the system above and beyond an iphone app but I will pick one up and try. https://www.amazon.com/Meterk-Electr...gateway&sr=8-3

It should be Stephen. I am using BP-600 600VA Balanced Isolation Power Conditioner which was CHEAP by audiophile standards but I've been using it for a year now, first with my headphone stations and now with the main system. It absolutely makes a difference in sound and as it turns out, it is dead quiet as far as EMF Radiation goes. :thumbsup:

It is my RGPC 600S that is in my main system that is very noisy for some reason, spewing all kinds of nasties... The 400 I have elsewhere is not nearly as bad. :dunno:

I watched the video Ivan. That seems like a very handy tool for not just the system but checking out the rest of your house for health reasons. :yes:

This meter is head and shoulders above the predecessor it replaced (I had that one also)

I am finding the new TF2 to be extremely useful, and I have already used it quite a bit.
