R.I.P. Jóhann Jóhannsson

He was found dead in his Berlin appartment, only 48 years old.

What a loss.

He will live on in his beautiful music.

Likewise, too sad the day ends with this sad news.

My wife and I saw him perform live at two occasions, both memorable concerts, but the Miners’ Hymns concert at the old Genk Coal Mine Site was truly otherwordly. It was like he was sculpting the ambient air with sound, creating fleeting ethereal constructs carried by the sound of the live brass band.

A unique and talented composer who will be sorely missed.
One that captured our zeitgeist better than being given credit for.
