Hello folks,

I listened to the STST MOTUS II at the Paris Haute Fidelite show sunday. Unique design melting a direct drive mechanism and a suspended platform.

Arm : Schröder CB
Cart : Jan Allaerts. MC1Boron MKII.
This cart is incredible. Pure sonic bliss made of high resolution and details and stunning coherence and neutrality without any sacrifice on musicality. A super natural sound.
The whole set up was sounding really excellent to my ears.

The Allaerts are truly excellent carts and surprisingly still not seen very often in setups.

Maybe of interest to you since you have a Shindo Giscours: I had been running an MC1B on a Schroeder tonearm and DPS table into an Auditorium 23 T2 step-up and Shindo Giscours with beautiful results. The Allaerts is incredibly rich and textured in tonality with lots of detail. Despite also running other more popular Shindo combinations (EMT TST15 and JSD S75), the Allaerts remained my favourite cartridge for the past 8 years. I am still running the MC1B, now directly into the Accuphase C37 and E600.

Interesting table as well - will need to check it out sometime.

Best wishes,

Rene

Hello Rene,

Very interesting comments. Many thanks.
I share your thoughts about the supreme musicality of the JA cart.
I just sold the Giscours actually. 2 high end preamps were too much for a single man. And I sold my T2 about 1 year ago.
I am very happy with the 3 carts I use but the JA has a great appeal. Although I do not feel comfortable in spending big amounts on carts.
Cheers,
J.

thats because theres wait list that runs more than year and Jan is the mercurial type to boot. he's never responded to any emails nor those of others that have tried.

I lucked into an Allaerts MC1b, it was very good but i didn't 'get religion.' Id rank it with Transfig and VdH and like anything else cartridge-wise, its very system dependant,

Hi Jerome,

time to update your signature :nono:

We have quite a bit of overlap in our systems - I also still enjoying the P9. I never mounted the Allaerts on the P9, just feel that it would be a better match to the Schroeder tonearm.

Actually waiting for a MC2 Finish to arrive as well so I can send my MC1B in for a checkup...

Rene

Wow ! You ordered a MC2 Finish !! So you are quite a JA expert !
I use now a simple ORTOFON 2MBlack on the P9. Great synergy in the MM of the Monbrison.
Yes I know for my sig.
The problem is that it changed so much last years that I just do not take the time to update it.
Do you have also the Cyrus Phono Sig ?

The Allaerts are really sweet cartridges. I agree with the others above. I might add it has a quickness and 3 d realism that is hard to beat. I had a MC2 Finish that I sold in favor of a Goldfinger Statement. My dealer brought his MC2 Finish over last week...and lots of things I've missed about it. Trying to find a way to keep both cartridges !

Very interesting comments. Thank you.
I find amazing that craftsmen can compete or even overcome large industrial companies.

The MC2 Finish is not in my "budget for a cart". I have always been frightened to spend large amounts of money in fragile items like carts. I do not feel enough confidence in my hands ! ;) The MC1Boron MkII would even be too much for me. :)

The other reason is the "diminishing return". I am not sure at all that my system would "deserve" a real high end cart. Will I really hear that much difference compared to the carts I use ? On a system like yours, I have no doubt. Mine is much more "forgiving". My SPUs ( Classic GM MKII and Classic GM E MKII), the EMT XSD15 and the 103 Expert Stylus Co are more than enough to me, although I admit that I would be very curious to hear the JA MC1 Boron MKII at home.
I found interesting with this JA the fact that the sound remains very listenable even with average recordings, opposite to other high end carts which will show you immediately all the problems.
