MT5 with C2200 ?

The manual of my C2200 indicates that it only accepts MM cartridge , while the MT5 comes with sumiko Blue MC.
What would be the result of a connection of the two? is it critical ?

And what would be a good solution, change cartridge or preamp ...

As you read with this question, I am absolutely not a technical expert ...

Thank you in advance for your assistance

Do not mix MM and MC.

Do you like your C2200?

As stated above, MC cartridge is not compatible with inputs designed for MM.

Second question involves many variables therefore difficult to answer in the absolute.

Having owned a C 2200 and trading it in on a new C 2300 I can say I strongly prefer the sound of the C 2300. It also has an excellent MC phono section that competes with standalone preamps in the same price range. As to the merit of changing out the stock cartridge for something else - I don't have a strong opinion on that - lots of great choices out there. Tom

Laurent.......You might consider selling your C2200 preamp and replacing it with a C2300. The McIntosh C2300 preamplifier has both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) phono stages built in. In particular, the MC stage is excellent and would work well with the Sumiko cartridge. The C2300 tube preamplifier is a fine component.

A second option, keep the C2200 and swap the Sumiko cartridge for an Ortofon 2M Black moving magnet cartridge. It is a great sounding moving magnet cartridge and will work perfectly with your C2200 moving magnet phono input.

thank you to all three of these enlightening answers !

I also consider the solution of adding an MP100 to my system.

An interesting option according to you? I did not read much about it ...

You will be fine with MT5 and C2200. The Sumiko Blue Point No.2 is high output moving coil, 2.5mV, which means you connect it to the MM input on your C2200. [emoji1303]

The MT-5 includes a Sumiko BluPoint 2 cartridge. This is a HIGH OUTPUT moviing coil cartridge. The 2200's moving magnet input will work just fine with the Sumiko BluPoint 2. I have an MT-5 (I have owned it for more than 2 years) and have played it through the C2200 and it sounds just fine.

I had clean-forgotten about HO MC cartridges. Good catch feinstei and j3brow.

Good catch - also Blue Point 2 is designed to run into 47k loads so totally compatible with MM stages.
