I read on this thread that the internal DAC is mid fi quality.

I would have no idea without being able to compare different devices.
That is what I am trying to do.

Thank goodness,
the latest Foundation has on screen display.
So I can see settings there.

Am very pleased you mentioned that I might not be able to use Sub in analog pre amp mode.
I will look into this.
I see that from HDMI is can go from stereo to plus Sub.
Since my new speakers have plenty off bass output,
might not need Sub at all for stereo mode.

My friend is coming over to work on some room acoustics issues.
I just heard from him,
he now wants to try using the Oppo as a pre amp.
That seems bit backwards to me.
But I would like to be able to hear it.

I really think,
the Foundation should be quite good sounding processor and works quite well for my AV system.
That is what I originally got it for.
But now with new set of speakers,
I want to get the most out of it for analog two channel audio.

Have been an audiophile for many years.
I will know pretty quickly is it is what I am looking for.
As long as I can do these comparisons.

Was encouraged to get an older Krell processor instead of the Foundation.
But really wanted to get the multiple HDM's.
numerous components that use only HDMI.
The older processors either did not have any HDMI's other than for a display or very few.

Adding a music sub to my older AE speakers made a huge improvement in SQ.

Replacing my Pioneer Elite to the Krell Combo,
Changed everything!
A real game changer.

By the Way,
Krell customer service has been absolutely wonderful to me.

Time to move forward and start enjoying the system.
Am going to patiently wait for my Audio friend to come over.

Thank you,

I don't like using terms like hi-fi or mid-fi.

If you read the reviewers, most love the Foundation sound.

Enjoy! :music:

Yes Ron.

I totally agree!

That should have been a tip ff when I read the words, Mid-Hi Fi.
Reviews have been quite Positive on this processor.

Not that reviews are much better.
But can be great starting point to get in the right direction.
Most people have not had the options of hearing numerous sets of gear as reviewers do.
My dealer friend has long time experience with Krell.
Interesting enough,
I grew up in same town as Rondi.
Went to same high school.
A few years apart so I never knew her.
Small world!

The other person who is helping me has been in the audio industry for many years and was a well known reviewer.

Now,
Can someone tell me how to add my equipment to my signature or do I have to be Senior member?
I am not that Old.

Time to enjoy my system.

Thank you

I've been using a Foundation 4K UHD (and Chorus amp) in my main system for two years now. Very happy with it. My approach has been to take full advantage of the high-quality DACs in the Foundation, rather than add components in an attempt to improve upon them. I also chose the Oppo 203 player for this reason, rather than the 205. In its price bracket, the Foundation is tough to beat, in my view. My experience with Krell service has been top-notch, as well. Very responsive and they stand by their products.

Things I love about it:
- Great DACs! Great sound quality!
- Low profile chassis
- Lots of HDMI inputs

My wish list:
- USB Audio input
- Roon Ready support
- Modern visual design for the On Screen Display (it works fine but feels like 1988)

Great to hear from another owner of the Foundation.

I totally agree about thee Lots of HDMI inputs.

Same as you,
I think the OSD looks like something from dot matrix.

Just a quick update.

Just got system in analog pre amp mode.
Found out I had to go through settings on Oppo.

I am absolutely stunned!
The sound is so much better coming from Oppo DAC.
I am convinced that some EQ settings are off in the Foundation digital mode.

My friend is coming over to re set it.
He is the one who kept telling me to go through the Oppo processing.
My dealer says the opposite.
Will soon find out.

Yes I do not see how I can use my Sub in analog stereo mode.

Thank you

The verdict is not in until I have the Foundation properly set up.
The Internal DAC is quite good as I have found out on this thread.

Am working on some room treatment so it is taking some time for my calibrator to come out.

I never expected to get to this level in regards to SQ.
This system in going to become my primary source for two channel audio.

I would be interested in looking into a tube pre amplifier in the future that has HT bypass mode.
Would be looking into an older model.

I think AR has some Line stage tube pre amps.
Can someone tell me which models they were?
Know CJ and Mod Write had some as well.

Most appreciated,

MBL 12

I went this route a number of years ago. One issue I had — I didn't want that tube preamp on for 24 hours a day.

Audio by Van Alstine accommodated that. I don't believe that is listed as a present option though, but they may be able to add for you. Frank Van Alstine is very accommodating.

Rogue Audio PR-7 is another that can be shut off when not in use.

Good Luck!
Ron

I done know why it just cant be turned off?
It would be in bypass mode from Foundation.

I would only turn on pre amp when in use.
Let me know?
