That is great news that Sony did the right thing with the 5400ES. I was amazed they killed it just as people were starting to acknowledge how good it was. Maybe I will buy a spare, or replace the 9100ES I use for SACD in the HT system.

I kept my old one as a spare and bought a brand new one to have the full ModWright treatment. It sounds wonderful. :music:

Hmmm? Any comparisons against the TOL Marantz units? I really like my 5400ES, and the decision would be should I move the 5400es to the vintage rig and pick up a TOL Marantz, or have the Mod done and continue using the Marantz SA8003 in the Vintage Rig? :scratch2:

I just ordered my spare 5400ES. Now I need to choose a good, but relatively inexpensive, pre/pro to use with it. I am looking at the NAD T-187, which seems reasonably priced yet provides exceptional performance.

This system will be replacing my Sony 9100ES SACD player, and DA-7100ES pre/pro. This combination is great for SACD since it uses Sony's proprietary iLink digital protocol. SACD with only one cable! I hope the NAD is better sounding with the 5400ES over HDMI.
