CD9 & REF DAC users, settings?
Just got my CD9/DAC and am enjoying it.
There is an up sampling option as well as a change of the digital filter between slow and fast. Same options as on the REF DAC. The manual says very little about when one option or another should or could be more suitable. So I was interested in starting a thread on users experience on what kind of sources, res/bit rate, or music they prefer upsampling or fast/slow filtering. Please share. Thanks. -Adam |
Congratulations on your new CD9. Keep us posted! :music:

hi Adam, congratulations on your cd9. It would be very interesting to hear your comments as ,as far as i can see, there has only been one detailed review of cd9.
What di you upgrade from? |
Here is the review of the CD 9 by Ken Kessler of Hifi News for those interested: http://www.absolutesounds.com/pdf/ma...y2013_4web.pdf

Thanks Cyril. Interestingly, he appears to like the product very much yet the sound rating is only 86%.

Ritmo, a very good point re the 86 rating ! I take more note in his reviews (and others) where they conclude by buying the reviewed product for their own personal use. Strangely it seems his has been the only CD9 review so far.

CD9 first impressions
Hi:
I am new to the forum. My system consisted of Vandersteen wood Quatros, a Reference 3 Pre, Reference 7 modified Redbook player, and a Reference 115 amp. I recently upgraded to a Reference 150 and the positive difference was more than I could have possibly imagined. But this is about the CD9. Today I have replaced my CD7 mod with a 9 which a dealer is letting me audition. It has approx 300 hours burn-in. My listening at the moment is primarily opera and symphonic. My first impressions: The highs are more extended, the sound stage deeper and the bass extended . . . BUT the overall first impression is one of great disappointment! Whereas I had finally banished the digital artifacts which I hate on Redbook, the are all back with the CD9. Hard highs and bloated bass. The filters and up-sampling changes things but neither for better or worse. Perhaps it is my system, or my listening habits but so far I am as disappointed with the CD9 as I am thrilled with the Reference 150. This is my first post, and I hope I haven't transgressed. Also hope I am in the right forum. Am most interested in your thoughts. |
