New Tubes!!
1 Attachment(s)
I installed all new Gold Lion tubes in my two McIntosh MC275 amplifiers today. How often do you guys replace tubes? I know it depends on how much the system gets used. I have owned these amps for 4 years and this is the first time to replace the tubes. I don’t know if I should give credit to the tube brand or just the age difference but all I can stay is Wow!!!!! The imaging and dynamics and frequency extremes are all so much better than before. I’m one happy camper!!

Steve.......Gold Lion tubes in the MC275 are the cat's meow! You should get 6000 to 8000 hours out of your new tubes. Happy listening.
I hope you remembered to shop our very own tube vender, Vintage_Tube. |

Steve,
Glad you're loving the GL re-issues. When I swapped out the McIntosh tubes in my 275 I got better dynamics, smooooother mid-range, and better definition on the highs. I replace tubes about every 6000 hours, which for me is every 5-6 years. I listen on average 20 hours a week. Tom |
I'd replace power tubes WAY more frequently than every 4000-6000 hours. I've now replaced 2 full sets (a dozen each) of Tung-Sol KT120 that were at somewhere between 1000-2000 hours (Rogue Apollo amps), and each time noticed a distinct sonic improvement with the replacement set.
Small 12**7 tubes seem to last much longer; haven't had one go bad yet, but then I also use only vintage models there, and I've had the tendency to roll/rotate them quite a bit over the years. |

You can try KT88-Z, combine with Telefunken, Mazda or Philip mini watt on 12ax7 tube socket. It will sound wonderful.
