MC501 Club

I have acquired a pair of well cared for McIntosh MC501 amplifiers after a long and sometimes frustrating search, having made numerous contacts, talking to snarky sellers and eventually tracking down a fellow in Florida who had just decided to sell a pair.

My thanks to Steve Davis at AXPONA (Audio Expo North America) for allowing me to take on the responsibility of caring for this pair of fine amplifiers.

So they shipped from Ormond Beach, Florida on Christmas Eve and arrived here in the PNW late last night.

This morning I was called by the local freight forwarder and they will be delivered to my home tomorrow between the hours of 2PM & 4PM.

While waiting for the shipment to arrive, I re-arranged my Salamander dual Twin 30 A/V furniture this past weekend to accommodate the additional girth of the MC501's and finished my cable management project this evening.

While my journey towards MC501 ownership is almost at an end, and the listening enjoyment is about to begin; I would invite the rest of you MC501 owners to post up your story here.

Aw man Michael I'm so happy for you and I know what your reaction is going to be.

But I want to hear it from you as you have a gift in writing.

Why, Thank You and Thank You!

Tell me about yours. How long have you had them? What was your reaction to them when you listened to them for the first time?

Details, Man, Details!!!

My story was a local dealer wanted to much when I was looking for more power than my MC275s bridged. I ended up with a MC402 and though it worked it's not a mono block system.

One lucky day on this site we had a fellow member selling his set and at a fair price. But even better he lived 3 hours away and said he would deliver them the next day. So not only was I able to get the amps I really wanted I was able to meet a very nice member who got them here safely for me.

Heres a shot when we got them in the house.

Well I got them hooked up at night so I could not strech their legs and had to wate till the next evening after work to grasp what I just got.

In my excitement racing home turning everything on I said a digital download is fine.

I put the digital version Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms, Money for Nothing and I was totaly impressed with the reality of the percussions, that snare drum slapping, the kicker pushing me back as I turned it up....

As the volume incresced to LOUD the autoformers started to kick in way early IMO, it should go much louder WTF. (Over Blow Digital Signal)

Time to try a record....same track on the new remastered halfspeed that the digital file came from. Holly #&*% now the vinyl track you can push the volume way up and no autofomer interaction, with all the above sound quality.

Michael you are going to love the bass extention, seperation and detail. Depending on your speakers head room will grow and bass will be sharp and solid at all volume levels.

I should note that when I added mine into the system I didn't change anything. I just disconected the 402 and pluged the 501s in, all the sound quality was from the 501s in comparison to the 402.

Michael.......Happy days! You're going to love the MC501's. They sound fabulous, run cool, and will power anything connected to their terminals. I am happy for you. :applause:

This was my living room system in 2011 when I still had my 501's. They had Ivan's handle kits on them and looked great. This system was a fabulous sounding setup.

Michael....a huge congratulations and welcome to the 501 club! They are fabulous amplifiers, and I've no doubt you will be delighted from the first listen.

I traded in my beloved MC300 and MC252 amps in for a trio of MC501's back in 2008, and never looked back.

Of course, I added the MC501 Handle kits offered by Ivan, which made them sound that much better! :D

Seriously.....congratulations and be sure to post your impressions and some photos.

Way to go!!
