Caring for geriatric strads

I bought my Strads used last year and the dealer did not have much background on them. So I wrote Sonus Faber with the serial number and they got right back with me on the build year, which was 2006. So I have 14 year old speakers. They said to use silicon spray on leather and surrounds to maintain them.

But I'm also thinking about what else might need to be done to keep them in top working order. For example, crossover parts, etc. The speakers sound great to me; all around best speakers I have owned. But these are the oldest speakers I have owned and can't help thinking that 14 years is like dog years in speaker life. :)

Am I just being a typical obsessive audiophile? Should I just not worry about their age and enjoy them? What are others doing with their aging speakers to maintain them?

Thanks,

Dave

A friend has owned the original Extrema's for 30yrs and they perform wonderfully, if it's not broke don't fix it. :music:

My Elipsa's are over 7 years old and they still look and perform like when they were brand new.

I can't believe it I've owned them for that long and I have no desire to replace them.

Enjoy your strad as much as you can. They have a very long life in them.

Those Strads should last you another 15 years trouble free

My Guarneri Homage are 26 years old and still sound lovely, the speakers are not showing any signs of decay ( unlike the owner )
