OMG.....I couldn't even imagine doing that. I was nervous just watching the trailer.

Free Solo

A remarkable achievement. My sister's husband is native Californian, big outdoor buff, and acquainted with one of the photographers. Not sure if the video mentioned this (will watch tonight), but every single move, from bottom to top was pre-planned - and written down - every finger hold, every toe hold, and the move needed to get to the next one. Just amazing.

Did they mention that in the traverse section you have go back down over 1,000 feet vertical and then back up?

They sure did.

I watched it last night. Amazing. I couldn't believe the first time he tried in the
Fall of 2016 he started so early that it was all dark. The fact that he did it the following
year in three and a half hours is untouchable. What a feat.

Sure is, luckily he is going to take a year or two out and do 'normal' climbing, one cannot tempt providence too much after all. I've hiked aplenty in the 'tains, and seen these kind of slopes. No thanks!

Free Solo was an extremely impressive film. The photography was simply brilliant. Alex Honnold is the world’s best alpine rock climber and to watch him cruise Freerider on El Cap was amazing. I’ve been a climber for 25 years but I can only imagine what it would be like to climb at his level. I hope he doesn’t push the envelope too far after seeing what happened to Ueli Steck. I’ve climbed quite a bit of alpine rock in the Bugaboos, Tetons, Canadian Rockies and the Alps. Watching Alex makes me want to climb something in Yosemite, about five times easier of course! ;)

Phenomenal documentary. Talk about a fearless individual. What an accomplishment! But Alex is definitely not all there, and he has the MRI to prove it. A lot of climbers in my field have the thrill gene, but he takes to an exponential level.
