C1100 on site and shipping!

My dealer sent me an email today. :D

krustycat 09-10-2015 08:08 PM

How much ?

j3brow 09-10-2015 08:14 PM

I think the C1100 is going to be a significant advancement for McIntosh preamplification. The new tube circuit design is interesting. I am glad to see the aesthetics match the remainder of the line up too. Looking forward to user comments.

JWJW 09-10-2015 09:47 PM

No tone controls.....:icon_thumbsdown::no: Damn. I LOVE the tube window up front vs. on top like the C2300/2500. :sigh:

GaryProtein 09-10-2015 09:48 PM

I wonder when the solid state version will be released.

I'm definitely a solid state guy. I want the piece to sound the same each time I turn it on. I just wonder why someone would spend in excess of $20,000 on a preamp and then change the tubes to make it sound different. Why buy the piece in the first place? How do you know XYZ brand tubes will make it sound even more to your liking?

I just want to sit down and listen. I don't have enough time to take components apart and play with them. I'd rather listen.

I thought Dan was off the Merry-Go-Round.

I view no tone controls as a plus.

beowulf 09-11-2015 02:05 AM

Wow, both beautiful and looks to be a serious piece of kit and circuit design as well! Probably the majority will disagree, but I like the tube window better on the new C1100 compared to the 3D window on the C1000. That said I wish they kept the engraving that they use on the C1000. Also no sign of the remote, could it be as cool as the C1000?

Doubting I will never be able to afford this piece unless I hit the lotto or something, but I'm going to torture myself anyways :D ... Does anbody know what the $MSRP on this comes in at?

Jean-Marc jmajma 09-11-2015 02:05 AM

What is the HXO button for?

For personal listening, the headphone jack features a higher output than any of our other preamplifiers, while Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®) brings a new depth and spatiality to your music.

JAH 09-11-2015 06:59 AM

MSPR is listed at $6500 per chassis. Total price of 13K. Not to bad considering the design...

jdandy 09-11-2015 07:33 AM

JAH.......Welcome to Audio Aficionado.

pagpc 09-11-2015 08:04 AM

my thoughts:

Exactly.

I have listened over and over, and always come back to solid state.

If that is correct, it is excellent pricing for top shelf preamp from McIntosh. Dollar wise, it's right there with C500 pricing. IIRC, C1000 cost 11,000 per chassis. Dropping the "over built" nature of the statement products of the past and the complexity of the on the fly switching tube and solid state has allowed McIntosh to bring these products to a wider audience. Good moves in my estimation. I also am glad that they eschewed the idea of built in DAC ....moving away from thinking in other preamps in their stable. I am now wondering what they will name and when will release a solid state, top of the line preamp.

EfeTe 09-11-2015 11:42 AM

HxD right?

Is a solid state version known to be in the works?

damacman 09-11-2015 04:46 PM

That pricing seems very competitive. I have a C100 that I really enjoy. I'll have to wait til one of you guys tires of your C500 ...

Likewise. I had that C200 for a little bit before I had to return it due to the issue with the volume knob or whatever was going on, but the C500 appeals to me most.

Although right now I am happy going the other direction and keeping it all in one box with the receiver. Never been more solidly impressed with a single piece of Mac gear.

The tube window is beautiful. Wish they would incorporate that is ALL their tube pre's.

Jon.......I hope they DO NOT put all tubes in the front on their preamps. I love the look of the tube window on the top of the C2300. Constantly looking at tubes on the face of a preamp looses its charm pretty quick in my opinion.

Dan said "Tubes" Ivan...

427 09-11-2015 11:58 PM

But he did mention "charm" and "pretty"

So in that case

I would MUCH rather have "Ivan's post" in ANY window of mine. :D

I assumed that a successor to the fine C-1000 was due from McIntosh. Instead it looks as if they have produced a companion pre-amp for the MCD-1100 disc spinner/dac. Like the CD player they have removed the 3D look and unbelievably offer no SS option. I am not sure where Mac believes this unit sits in their line-up but in my opinion it still takes a back-seat to the venerable C-1000 even if the web-site indicates its the quietest pre-map they have manufactured.
