Thanks...
It's a great sounding preamp.
And the tubes are reasonably priced.

TongSol KT66s are worth a try as well.

I find it interesting in that both the new production "Tung-sol" and the "Genalex Gold Lion" tubes are made in the same Russia factory, generally sell for around $5 difference, yet they are very different tubes.

For one thing the T-S run at a heater current of 0.9A while the GL run at 1.27A.

The Tung-sols are much more like a big bottle 6L6GC. It can be run in 6L6GC amps where the GL could overdraw the power transformer in such an amp (but not an Inspire amp).

Sometimes these various New Sensor tubes are near identical across brands.

Went to the shop this morning to pick up some power transformers.
While I was there I had myself a little listening session with bearcity's beautiful full range speakers.
They've been playing since Friday and are sounding mighty fine!

Did you and Dennis have some sort of fight in front of the amps? :D

That's a good one Bombadil...
When your listening sessions involve the tweaking of amps and speakers
along with tube rolling it can get a little cluttered after awhile

I thought it was a Toy Factory crop circle. :scratch2:

An observation

The power transformer on my PSE runs a LOT hotter than the one on my SE HO amp. The sides are too hot to touch. And this is when running the amp at low to moderate volume levels with the 16 wpc KT66 tubes.

The PSE does heat my apartment. The other day my temp went up by 1.5 degrees after running it for 3 hours. This is a good thing in Wisconsin.
