Chernobyl

Did anyone else watch the five part HBO series Chernobyl? Both Linda and I found it interesting and also a bit disconcerting.

Chernobyl

I watched the first episode last night. The series was injected with a lot of Hollywood moments. Nonetheless, it was very, very scary disaster for sure with a LOT of coverups and cover your a$$.

I am watching the one on Hulu, first few episodes with Stellan Skaarsgard and others great actors. It's compelling, well done and very disconcerting...

Same show, correct?

I've been enjoying it. Had to laugh just a little when a certain "group" was running around naked. Don't want to reveal too much.

Watched it. Should get some Emmys. Very well done.

I enjoyed it. I then starting reading various reports on the facts as they are now known. The movie did a good job of highlighting the decay of the Soviet system. That perhaps was the main message.

There were certainly some liberties taken by the writer/director etc.

We watched the first two episodes yesterday, I thought it was excellent! The first episode was intense, almost like a horror movie. My wife was only 8 years old at the time but remembers it well, she’s from St. Petersburg, Russia. Once the Russian government finally admitted it, they were told not to play outside or go out when it was raining for quite a while and not to eat certain foods etc. Of course they still didn’t know the full scope of what happened due to the government etc.

We are planing to start watching Chernobyl shortly. Heavy topic. :sigh:

I recall watching documentaries some years after the accident about all the poor kids that were born with severe birth defects, it was terrible. There are still cases to this day of thyroid cancer in both adults and teenagers that were born way after the accident.

The Fukushima reactor will not be safe to enter for another 30-40 years with any protection we have today. As it stands now, any person would be dead within 3 min and the robotic cameras they send in to view what’s going on last 2 hrs only. The electronic components can not withstand radiation that high. That’s insane radiation levels. What a disaster...
