I'm also pretty interested to hear how the upgrade(s) improve the sound.

Most of my digital songs are lossless AIFF CD rips, so the higher resolution won't likely make a difference to me. Would I expect to "hear" a major difference in my setup (currently my DAC2 is the DAC/Preamp in my system)?

Way to go W4S in including an upgradeable solution! Almost unheard of in today's digital world.

Here's what I read so far

"Some improvements could be summarized as improved air, imaging and space in the soundstage. There is also a more organic and natural presentation while keeping all of the normal detail that the stock unit produces. In the test system that I listened to I could pick up on any changes in the lower frequencies."

Russell....that's great, I'll be very interested in your findings.

Figures this happens right after I sell my DAC2 :) The green display would fit in better with my Mac system, but the D100 fits quite nicely!

Hmmmmmm Maybe the "GREEN" was aimed at the D100!? Since the "SE" is costing about the same price as the D100. You'd hope they were able to one up on McIntosh. Then at that price point could we see a "ARMS RACE'?

Ken.......The Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 SE actually does one-up the D100 with the ESS 9018 DAC versus the D100's ESS 9016 DAC, and the DAC2 SE raises the bar with its new DSD capability.

Actually, you can get the DSD upgrade alone for only $350. The full SE upgrade goes quite a bit further with improvements that are said to yield sonic improvements across the board-due to improvements in the power supply, analog circuits etc.

Maks. I'm sure glad you sold it! It's fitting very nicely into my system. Thanks again for a smooth transaction.

Right on! :tresbon: I've been on the road for work again so didn't get a chance to ask you how you liked it. Hopefully you don't get in too much trouble if you acquire a C2300 :)

It's quite possible, but I am very happy with my D100 and have no regrets. One thing I really liked about the DAC-2 was the future upgrade path and it's nice to see they've lived up to that promise. I haven't listened to many other DACs, but I really believe it'd be hard to beat the DAC-2 in that price range. It certainly beat the pants off the DAC in my MX135, that's for sure.

What about DAC1 owners? Any upgrades in the future that anyone knows of?
