Ok, thinking about a Fathom...

For a small room and using monitor sized speakers... anyone see why I shouldn't go with just a 112 as opposed to a 113???

Thanks in advance.

Stephen.......I believe a Fathom f112 will be perfect. You will also have the advantage of a better initial cost, and should the future put your system into a larger room, adding an additional f112 would be an easy deal. I have heard nothing but praise for the f112 subs.

An F112 would be more than adequate for a small room. My son uses one in his bedroom.

Agree with Dan - if you can afford it, go with two F112s for stereo L/R image right off the bat, otherwise start with one and add the second later. Besides the low frequency stereo imaging in a two channel setup, two subs also give you a lot more placement flexibility and more even in-room frequency response - even in a small room this is important, sometimes moreso than in a larger room.

Thanks for all of the great responses.

I am looking forward to getting the little PMC's set up and then I will make the decision if a sub is needed.

Keep the suggestions coming.

It's not a matter of "IF", it's a matter of "WHEN"... :D Seriously, I don't think any speaker that would work well in a smaller room couldn't benefit from a Fathom.

The F112 is perfect for a smaller room. I use 2 of them myself.

I had a feeling that "someone" was going to say that....

So, in a hypothetical dedicated room of 16 X 24 X 10, 2 F112 or 2 F113? I ask this because that is the approximate dimension of the room I'll have available in the new house. When people mention small, med or large rooms, I have a difficult time visualizing without numbers.

Gordon, I'm working on a 16x26x10 myself, so our room will be nearly identical. I'm planning on using the 2 F112s since that's what I have already but since you still have the choice, I think you'd better bring in the heavy artillery and go for the F113s. The F112s work without breaking a sweat in my current 14x17x8 room and will probably will do OK in the bigger one but if you still have the choice, why not go all the way. The price difference is not that great.
