Krell Evo Amps

Has anyone had any experience with Krell Evolution AMps, such as the 302, 402, 403, 400, 600, or 900? I have seen them, and many say they are MUCH smoother then past Krell units, with a lush mid. Im just curious, so do not have a conniption by my interest!:D

I've heard most of the models you mention. Synergy with speakers still plays a big role. I like Krell Evo with Sonus Faber but definitely not my preference with Wilson. Opinions will vary as always.

The current issue of TAS noted something about Krell coming out with a newer version or technology for the EVO line. I will look for it later.

I kind of like the Krell gear but its pricing is scary compared to McIntosh, Ayre, Simaudio and several others.

Yes, Ayre is a steal IMHO.

They are the same amps but with "E" mode, which draws less watts at idol and throws off less heat while sitting. That only means it will take longer for them to warm up. I would never use that, I just shut them down at night(the temp in the room drops 15 degrees). When I power them up I will watch TV for a half an hour or so to get them warm then start listening to music.

Yes three 600's... Krell can retro fit the Economy or Environment mode, I forgot what the E stands for if I chose, but it is $2500 per amp and I do not see a need for it since I just shut them down. If you like to leave the amps in stand by I would see the need for it just in the savings of electricity and less heat. The amps draw 70w in stand by but in E mode I think it is more like 17w.

I felt the center deserved the same quality amplification the mains were getting. Plus, the same amp across the front is needed to get that seamless sound stage.
