Advice requested re CD player!
So I have upgraded all the components in my 2 channel system recently. The only thing left is the CD player.Replacing a 20 year old Sony ES 5 disc carousel unit.Still sounds pretty good.
My budget I know is "low" for this forum but I would like to keep it between $400-1K. Not thrilled with the Rega player as it does not fit ergonomically into my audio rack. Right now I'm considering the Marantz CD 6006 the cheaper 5005 or if I can get my dealer to give me some discount maybe the Musical Fidelity M3scd. Don't care for Cambridge audio. My dream CD player would be either a Bryston or MCIntosh player. My amp is the McIntosh MA 252.Also have the Musical fidelity MX dac(very nice!) Any other alternatives in the 'Low/mid price" category? Thanks all! Gabe |

ask and you shall receive .........Rotel RCD-1572, so long as you don't need SACD playback, it is (IMO) one of the best sub 1k players out there, yes I'm biased, I love mine in a second system that I have

I have a Marantz 8005 sacd player with built in Dac that's quite good for less than 1000.00 dollars.

I needed a player in your price range a few years ago and this is what I picked up. Very solid machine for it's low price imo https://emotiva.com/products/erc-3

If Oppo isn't sold out, their 203 is a great SACD player for sub-$1000. The 800X from Marantz is also an excellent piece for the $$.

Decision made.....I ordered the Marantz CD 6006.
Considered the Emotiva ERc-Nice, but disadvantages to me were weight, the auto play, no random or delete feature nor a USB A slot for an iPod.Those features are included with the Marantz. Also my dealer gave an 15% discount off the $499 price of the CD6006. So I think anyone considering this should attempt to deal a bit for it.... I have owned Marantz in the past and apart from the mediocre HEOS streaming software, their components were solid and sounded good. I will evaluate what transpires with the future of "audiophile" recorded formats before I can consider a top notch CD player from McIntosh or Bryston. Thanks everyone for the advice! Gabe |
So, this will probably be a transitional CD until some new affordable format is developed or becomes easy to use .
Otherwise I'll hope for a long lost relative to leave me enough money to cover the esoteric stuff I dream about.... Thanks again for everyone's advice!I take it seriously! Gabe |
