Mark Levinson?

Just wondering why there is no Mark Levinson section on this site? I'd love to share/exchange some insight on this line.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom...What is your favourite generation of ML. Eg. Mark days, Madrigal days, Harman Kardon days.

I loved the Madrigal days but sadly much of that gear now requires expensive servicing & recapping. The number of capacitors in No.33 or no.33H is many. :sigh:

Hi Steve,

I currently own a 38S preamp...I simply cant find anything I like to replace it, and the build quality is stunning. I never owned any ML cd players or amps but I do understand about the cap problems on earlier amps. A lot of the Levinson gear is highly acclaimed. I know their current offering is thin but they still make some damn nice equipment.

current setup:

ML 38S

JBL L300

Meridian G08.2

Adcom GFT-555II (for Pirate games!...I know, they stink)

Mcintosh MC 252

I'm a JBL fan for life.....The efficiency of the L300's is amazing....I barely put out 20-watts or so from the 252 to drive them to insane levels.

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom.... 38S  :D I don't know much about the current HK generation except that it is different from the ML hay days.

ML has such a brand recognition. Unfortunately, the product mix is not as nice as it used to be. Also, lots of comments from owners in various sites about quality issues, lack of customer service and very expensive repairs.

This looks interesting.....If your loaded.

Tom... I'm open minded to a ML Forum, great avatar BTW

Thanks for the reply Ivan. I'd part with anything....except my 300's!

Tom

Wow, that’s some old kit! Pretty cool that it still sounds good. My ML experience is limited to the new stuff, but I’m not surprised that someone is extolling the delights of the older gear.

Welcome to AA!

Nice

I recognized your L300's instantly, absolutely loved them. I have owned much ML gear over the years, spanning two generations, and have only had one failure (not due to caps) with one amp (335). I know Audio Research is very popular here, sadly I've had trouble with almost every piece owned. Luck of the draw I guess !!!!!

I’ll bet these are superb, the same design team that brought us the No.’s 536, 534, 526, 523, 519, 515 and 585 are behind these too. Though the specs mention Thermal-Trak devices, which are used quite effectively by ATI Amplifer Technologies’ Morris Kessler in the AT6000 Signature series amplifiers. I’m guessing that ATI is the source for the amplifier modules, if not the final assembly too.

My experience is that the ATI Signature amps are almost on par with my ML No. 536’s - if not quite.

Anyone know the price points?

George

TheMadMilkman 10-06-2018 12:47 PM

$7000 and $8500.

Nice pic's. That 'Tak' refractor in the second pic is a good match to the Mark Levinson & Revels.

Interesting. I've owned one piece of ARC gear and it blew a cap underneath the chassis and burned the top of the cherry piece it was sitting on. Always sounds good at the dealer's place, but that's where it will stay. On my first piece of ML and it sounds & performs for me just like it did in the reviews I've read.
