Listening to Wilson Speakers: Grills or No Grills

I’ve always been a “no grills” kind of listener with my B&W speakers. Getting to know a pair of Sasha1s these days, which I’m really liking. I forgot to pull the grills recently and was impressed with the change. Everything cleaned up even further. Very interesting...

I’m not saying this is required but more just another interesting tuning option for the right music.

I thought maybe I read somewhere that Wilson recommends leaving the grills on? Maybe the manual? Is this true?

Do you listen to your Wilsons with grills on or off?

With my pair of CUB IIs, the sound was definitely better sans grills. Was a good thing, as the grills would not stay on without some help from packing tape.

With a couple of more recent reviews the reviewer remarked on how the speakers (last Sophia series and Sasha, if memory serves) were noticeably more coherent/better sounding with the grills on.

Currently I have the grills on my tweeters and off the other drivers. In the past I have had the grills on the woofer on occasion. I don't really notice a big difference either way.

I keep mine on. I don't notice any differences.

I initially had my grills on my speakers when first purchased. Fast forward after speaking to two different sources at Wilson I removed them. I guess it depends on the WAF for some and or if you like to look at the drivers themselves which I don't mind. I listen in low light or lights off anyway.

I keep mine on.

Listening to Wilson Speakers: Grills or No Grills

Like my girls, nude, if it’s affecting sound, I can’t hear it.

Just a thought. . .

If designers of $10,000 to $680,000 speakers gave them grills, wouldn't they voice the speakers to sound the way they wanted them to sound with the grills on?

I can't tell any difference either way. Have a Sasha DAW night coming up at local dealer next week and Peter McGrath will be there so I'll ask him.

One man's grilles are another man's dustcovers.
