242 Panels behind speakers

I have a few cable&tube upgrades on the way, but now im FINALLY dipping into the acoustic treatment path as well.

Its taken a while to convice my other half to move into this area, as my listening room is also our main living room.
However due to pressure, favours, and time, its now possible.

I've read alot and bought some starting gear from GIK.

2 x soffit bass traps to front corners, (bottom to ceiling)
2 x freestanding bass traps rear corners (cant fit anything else there)
2 x 244 bass traps 60x120 cm(putting one behind listning position, as its near wall, one in spare)
4 x 242 panels 30x120 cm

So i've bought the above due to room layout mostly, and I'll use the 242 panels for first reflections on either side untill I get some aku-art of some sort in the future.

Now the question is what experience you Guys have with mounting 242 panels behind the speakers, covering first reflections to the main listening position?
I have two 242 panels 30 x 120 cm to put there.
From what i've learned through searching the web, its a bag of mixed results.
Some liked them, some did'nt.

Whats your experience, and what height would you put them in?
Obviously covering the ear level, but from bottom or raised a bit or?

Speakers are Sopra no 2 and they do not have rear bass ports.

for me i like treating the front wall as much as possible... since its space all ready occupied by all the gear and cables. i think some 242's behind and possibly in the center as well, will do wonders...

the first reflections are the worst, but the ones coming directly from behind are only delayed by 2 or 4 milliseconds... and will 'smear' the sound the most...

reflections from the side are my next main attack..

nice work on the GIK.... you will see a whole new life in your gear.

also yes raising them up will be more effective... but, placing them on the floor will cover than bottom corner, (floor meets wall).. deadening 90 degree corners are a must...

your just going to need more! (smiley)

Allright thanks for the input, looking forward to getting them Next week and playing around with them

For sure they work great on the front or side walls. If you want to retain the upper frequencies then look to use the built in scattering plates that will help retain the upper frequencies. ;)

BTW this will not be out for a couple weeks but you could also use our Alpha panels that will not only look great, but absorb the lower frequencies while scattering/diffusing the upper energy.

Nice Glen. What will they go for?

Need to work out the final numbers but around $85.00 each.

Glenn,

Very interested in these new panels. Are they 2' X 2' and will they come in multiple finishes?

Glenn, they look interesting. I'll definitely watch this space as my room needs the absorption to tame it, but can sound a little over-damped.

You actually might remember me from a LONG time ago. Possibly your first customer in Ireland, back when everything shipped from the US...?
