Best speaker for Luxman 590a-II Class A
 

Just wondering your thoughts....

I would love to try some panels or maybe some horns...

I too am interested in the forthcoming suggestions. That being said what are you not liking about the Harbeth's ?

Mmmm. Panels and horns are, in my experience, at rather opposite end of the spectrum (both sonically and in terms of efficiency). I've enjoyed Magneplanars for a few years. Very natural, fast, and clean sounding but they lack "deliciousness" and you know I am big on that. They also liked a lot of power. The new Maggies are considered amazing speakers for the price, a best-buy, but knowing your tastes (which are similar to mine) I suspect that they may leave you a bit "cold".

Stats and Luxman have always been a good match...I ran Acoustat 2+2's for years with Lux, awesome sound. :D

B&W and Luxman are a natural as well, the Lux tames easily any high frequency "zing" the B&W's might attempt to produce.

Other combo's with Lux I have enjoyed are the big SF's, Apogee ribbons, TAD (but that's just easy, everything sounds good with TAD, and finally Aerial.

I have the Harbeth M40's and as much as I appreciate them, I have them for sale right now...just too polite for alot of the music I enjoy. :boring:

Oh, and the Monitor PL-300's and a big Luxman amp sound amaaaaaazing! :tresbon:

I agree with you, the class A Luxman integrated amps sound warm and rich, they should go well with the B&W, I would get the 804 Diamond.

Luxman demoed the 590AII and the new 590AX with the 802D, even if I think they could not sound at high SPLs, expecially with the good old AII.

They demoed (at the Tokyo International Audio Show) even the 509u with the 802D, the class AB gives much more power and control, but it was paired not with the Luxman D06 or D08 SACD players, but with their audio/video digital source.

Now I understand why they did that way : I had 509u + D06 + B&W 903D and sounded a bit forward for my taste.
The B&W need at least one warm piece in your audio gear, while the 509u and D06 are absolutelly neutral.
Now with the Accuphase DP700 the system sounds more balanced.

The warm 590 with B&W 804 Diamond and the D06 (or D08) should be a good match as well.

I have L-590AX which replaced the 590AII connecting to 804 Diamond and it gives very warm/rich fluidity sound.

Easy: Harbeth. Superb natural speakers and a great match with Luxman.
