Charles' a.k.a. chops-tube's System...

It's been quite a while since I've been on here, but a lot has changed, as in new apartment in a different town as well as some of the equipment.

A quick rundown of the gear...

2-Ch portion:
Belkin PureAV PF40
Onkyo TX-NR809 - Bi-amping the main speakers
Nakamichi RX-303
Denon DR-M30HX
Sony CDP-397
Technics SL1700 Mk II
Azden GX-50
dbx 224x
NHT 2.9

5-Ch portion:
Samsung 50" Plasma TV
EliteScreen 100" Motorized Screen
Epson Home Cinema 720 Projector
Sony PS3
Sony SLV-575UC VCR
AV123 X-Statik
AV123 X-Voce
Polk Audio PSW-505

Stuff that isn't stayin':
Monarchy Audio SM-70 Pro
AV123 X-Statik
AV123 X-Voce
Polk Audio PSW-505
Kenwood GE-770B
Pioneer CT-W600R

The Polk subs are being sold because the NHT 2.9's don't need them (LOL). The AV123's are being sold because I'll be going with all NHT (AudioCenter 2 and 2.5's for rears). The Kenwood EQ and Pioneer dual deck are going into the bedroom system.

As you can tell from the pics below, some listed items have yet to make it into the system. We just moved a month ago, so it's taking a little bit of time to get everything situated. And for fun, I decided to bi-amp the NHT's with the Onkyo receiver. It has an option to use two dedicated surround channels for bi-amping, so I figured I'd try it out. Sounds quite good actually!

Also, this time around, I'm taking somewhat of a "vintage route" with the system. The cassette decks sound excellent and I have tons of tapes. The Sony CD player isn't the greatest, but it does sound pretty darn good considering, and I love the looks of the old style fluorescent display. My really good Pioneer Elite SACD player now resides in my headphone rig. The Azden EQ and dbx are just there for show. They receive a signal, but it just loops through them and NOT back into the system.

Lastly, once everything is the way it should be, I'll whip out the DSLR and take some better pics. For now, you guys will just have to deal with my Galaxy S3 pics. :D

Very nice system ! Congrats and thanks for sharing.

I just noticed you have 2 cats, a black and a grey one ! Isn't that funny how they turn around us when we're tweaking the system, taking pics or anything ? They seem to tell us: " what are you doing again with all those stuff ? Play some music and play with me and be done with all that craziness...." ! :D

Charles,
As a past owner of the 2.5's,2.9's,& VT3's, I remember how nice & clean they sound. A very nice system you have there. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some fond memories.

Very nice! Something's missing though ... I see the LP's, but I don't see the turntable!

Thanks for all the great compliments about the system and cats!

The system is slowly coming together and I'm still playing around a little bit with speaker placement, though they sound excellent already. At 6 ohms, the receiver is giving the NHT's a health 160w per channel, not to mention they're being powered by four separate amps within the receiver.

Rilands, I'll be using the 2.5's as surrounds so that they match the looks of the 2.9's. even if they are overkill for surround duties. I love the looks of the angled front baffles. And you're correct, the NHT's do have a very clean and clear sound, with loads of solid, detailed bass that never gets too heavy or in the way of the music.

Jérôme, there's actually 3 cats in the pics above, however, we have a total of SEVEN! It's nice to go into any room and have at least 2 cats with you at all times. LOL

Amfibius, I have the TT sitting in the bedroom system at the moment, not connected though. It will eventually work its way out to the main system once I make some room for it between the left speaker and rack.

Chops...You got some good stuff there, I like it.:music:

I always loved those larger NHTs. I heard them powered with Parasound gear and the opening to Larry & Lee - La Underground really jumps with some slam.
