Alternative Tubes For The M1.2...

Hi all,

The Lamm M1.2s are my first foray into the realm of tubes. As such, I've learned that tube rolling could potentially improve the sound of these already phenomenal amps. Has anyone changed the tubes in the M1.2? What are your experiences?

Having 6ohm speakers the ability to switch between operating points is like having two amps in one.

Tube rolling is like having a collection of different amps in one pair of monos without any of the hassles of lifting and storing. The best part is, you can go back to the factory sound anytime you like.

I am now using Valvo 7308s. I've used others in the past.

Mullard e88cc - Golden glow, classic tube sound

Mullard cv2492 - more spacious and linear but still warmer than stock

Telefunken CCa Red Tips - extremely quiet tubes, very refined, very extended and clear with a touch of sweetness but not as full bodied. The choice for detail oriented types of listeners or those turned on most by soundstaging.

The Valvo tubes which were made in the Amperex Holland plant are somewhere between the CV2492 and the CCa reds. Soundstage is a bit shorter but there is more texture on strings, vocals and brass.

:)

Hi all,
has anyone tried the Genalex 6922 Gold Lion tubes for the Lamm M1.2 and can share the experiences. I like These tubes in my CAT Legend preamp and they are current production and you can get them as Ultra matched pairs. Will they Sound good in the M1.2? Anyone with experiences?

6922/ECC88/E88CC/E188CC all have variation in the sound which some sound warm and dark, other sound fast and thin... IMO, the most nature sounding tube which best match LAMM character for it detail, and nature sound will be either the Telefunken E88CC or the Siemen E188CC. The Telefunken is slight better in their mid which add sweet warm plus detail. Both are still fast in their attack but not thin. The only problem is they may be hard to come by and not cheap. And beware of imitation.

Thank you S1chen,
did you also try the Genalex GoldLion 6922, if so what´s your Impression. I have some NOS Telefunken 802S but they are still new and i don´t know if they are a good match for the Lamm´s.

No I did not try the gold lion 6922. But I do believe the telefunken 802 will be good.

i ordered some different tubes (also Genalex Gold Lion 6922 ultramatched) and do a test once the Lamm´s have their 300 hours of burn in time. i tried Herbie´s Audio lab tube dampers which are good but not here in the Lamm M1.2. I hope to get some more Input on tubes specially from Lamm M1.2 users.

Tele 802s?

Sounds great in the LL2 and LL2.1

*802s/12au7s are not for use in any M or ML amp. 6dj8 family for M series only and 803s/12ax7 for ML series input tubes
