Ripping Vinyl to make a CD
I have some LPs that I would like to make into CDs.
I would like the CD to be a 16 bit 44.1 kHz recording. PCM or AIFF or other high quality conversion is preferred. I am ignorant of what is necessary to do this. What hardware and/or software do I need in addition to my turntable and McIntosh preamps to do this? I am certain there are very costly methods to accomplish this, but I would like to do this on a shoestring budget if possible. Thank you very much for your help. |
Gary... you will need an ADC of your choosing. Analog Digital Converter; mine is a Burmester and a bit costly.

I would buy CD versions of historical recordings. But if you have rare records, an inexpensive way is to use a Sony turntable which can output DSD.

I have no idea what a Burmester ADC costs, but I have a feeling the price tag has two more zeros than I was looking to spend. :D  I am not expecting top audiophile results. |
SAPHANA thank you that Sony sounds like one possible option.

Alesis Masterlink ML-9600 is out of production, but you can buy one used. Or. Korg MR-2000S and your computer. Either of these can produce excellent redbook results.

Gary, Pro-ject makes several phono stages with ADC capability and USB output, I think starting at around $200. Plug your TT into one and the USB output to your computer. Then you just need a recording app or program of some kind.
I think Ivan's a Pro-ject dealer. |

We are now back down to earth on what I had envisioned.
Thank you! |
What kind of recording app would I need with a Pro-ject phono stage with USB digital output?
Is a CD recorder a good option? That sounds simple. Is it reasonably good? |
