Brand New P12/P15 have been introduced.
PS Audio has now discontinued the P5 and P10
The new models known as P12 and P15 will begin shipping mid-May. MSRP for the P12 is $4,999 MSRP for the P15 is $7,499 I will be posting more on these models shortly. |
More expense!

yikes

While I applaud the release of new kit, the price increase is troublesome.

The stuff was already at the threshold of being "too expensive". There doesn't appear to be any cutting edge technology advances in the new models to justify the jump in price. I think PS Audio could be walking the high end audio plank. There are plenty of worthy competitors that offer similar products that provide enthusiast's system needs at more competitive prices. I don't want what my system doesn't need.

The PS Audio DSP5 and DSP10 might pique my interest if they have battery backup. At those prices they should.
|
No battery backup from what I've read at the PS forum, but using technology from their DSD DAC in creating the AC waveform reportedly results in much cleaner power delivery and a corresponding improvement in sonic performance.
|
My PS Audio dealer is very helpful in getting their equipment to me for home trial, so I may get a DSP10 to see what it does better than a P10 in due course. May be later than April in the UK.

Cool to hear your thoughts later down the road |

Very satisfied with the P10, especially tonight when am able to see my voltage in is 118ish and out is at a steady 120.6 We don’t see power outs unless bad weather then all units shuts down. |
I honestly don't see why I should pay those prices when Bryston/Torus Power offers such incredible performance at a more affordable price. Do the PS Audio products really yield any sonic advantages over the Bryston/Torus Power products? If so, how much?
|
When cables and interconnects cost tens of thousands of dollars, it's very conceivable power regenerators as well as conditioners cost in similar price territories. Other companies like AudioQuest, Shunyata, and Audience sell power conditioners at similar price points. A full monte Shunyata system will set you back 20 grand. Transparent sells an even more expensive conditioner.
The main question I have with these specific PS Audio units is are they scaled down versions of the PS20? I like the high number of sockets available with the PS 20 and would opt for it for that reason alone. |

One point to keep in mind regarding relative pricing is that the PS Audio products being discussed are true AC regenerators, while some of the others mentioned are isolation transformers or passive power filters. Each has different potential benefits and trade-offs depending upon your specific system and power requirements.

Here's a link to what I believe is the first review of the new P20 from Taiwan which can be (somewhat roughly) translated using the Chrome browser. They make brief comparisons with the P10 and explain the technical differences in the new design.

Interestingly PSA is using FPGA approach on a power generator. Are they going too far? |
I got the P20 here on Saturday.
I had a customer come in. Same system he’d heard the previous Saturday. I had just updated the firmware on the P20 and just unplugged the power plugs from the P10 and put it in the P20. Even from when I was kneeling down in front of the P20 between speakers I noticed the way the bass was tight punchy and controlled. Really dynamic. The customer asked what I did. The system wasn’t even flexing. My BHKs were out on loan. So it was just some Stellar Monos. |
PS Audio decided to make a last minute name change to these two new models.
They will be called the P12 and P15 instead of the DSP5 and DSP10. Shipping will begin next month! |
Ivan,
The new model designations imply 20% and 50% more capacity than the P10. Will that be the case? |

Nice.
I have a P20 now. Considering two P15s :) |
I received an email today from Music Direct offering trade-in on the new Pxx's, from $2500 to $4000 depending upon whether you trade the P5 or P10 and what you buy to replace it. Yet I don't find anything on the PS Audio website. Is this strictly Music Direct or is it from PS Audio?
