2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Design Analysis: “I’m Sorry, but I’m Disappointed”

`

This design analysis is from Automotive Design Editor Robert Cumberford.

I'm afraid that I'm disappointed too in dat azz !! That's a whole new dimension in "busy". I suppose I'll get used to it eventually, but I wonder if that will be widely panned & modified eventually unlike previous generations. I suppose not.

I do like that the starting price is $60k. I would never have thought decades ago that I would ever say that.

It does look like a camaro from the rear but the overall appearance is very nice

I think it's badass.

while I agree the 'ass end' isn't the best, overall I'm smitten for sure !

very much surprised at the base pricing, I figured for sure it would be 10k more !

That side view does look good, with a hint between a F430 and the new Acura NSX,
but the rear is indeed "busy". I'm not particularly fond of that wing, it takes out from
the classical views (maybe a delete option like in some cars?). The interior is tailored
for the driver for sure, with all the screens and controls aimed at him/her, I like that.
I does look tight from the pictures. The bigger disappointment for me will be the weight;
it is stiffer than the previous model, but it is more than 100 pounds heavier.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the aging audience for the Vette. GM knows they are going to have to keep the price "reasonable" if they are going to continue selling the product in the future. The current median age for a Corvette buyer is 61. That is up from 54 just a decade ago.

Definitely badass and cool as a Ferrari to look at!

The critics wouldn't be hitting it so hard if it were some italian eurosport new design (IMHO)

for sure and being that there's no longer a 'less expensive' front engine model it makes sense that they don't scare away the majority of the market.

Just think, a nicely equipped Z51 will probably cost around 75k, what does that buy you in a Porsche 718 ?

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.." as they say.

But I would say that I behold no beauty within that design. It's just too busy and those rear lights look like a current generation Camaro looking at you from the rear of the Corvette. Yeah, yeah, yeah...they gotta vent a lot of air away from the mid-engine compartment and they have do do something to manage the exterior air.

But oh so many car makers have found a way to do so elegantly, even GM.

So what went wrong and what's wrong with this rear design that they can't update in an elegant manner?
