Loving my SACD Player

It has been a very long time since I have played a SACD as I normally stream music or play vinyl.

Today, I decided to spin a few discs on my Esoteric K-01x. I had forgotten just how well this unit performs bringing out all the magic a SACD has to offer. :D

I was taking one of my last listens to SACD on my K-01X and I started to get serious seller's remorse...
SACD sounds unbelievably palpable on the K-01X.
It's giving my wallet bad thoughts...

I was playing with the DSD filter and in my system, "on" sounds incredibly better than "off." And it has nothing to do with the volume change between those two settings. Which sounds better in your system?

I have a K-03X. For me it's a close call, but I prefer the DSD filter for SACDs left "off."

Off for me as well

Just curious - what do you hear when you turn the dsd filter on?

"Off" in my system is kind of flat and cold sounding while "on" is three dimensional with gorgeous tonal saturation. Interestingly I hadn't noticed this to such a degree with my older speakers.

Interesting in that we seem to be hearing the exact same thing on opposite settings. Mine is the new k-01xs so maybe something changed?

Filters off

With the DSD filter 'on', I hear a more 'polite' sound with slightly less glare on some recordings, but with a loss of some of the improved micro detail that SACD brings to the table. Strangely, engaging the filter seems to increase the volume (which I adjust when comparing settings). On balance, I prefer 'off.' As George remarked, we seem to be hearing opposite settings.

Very interesting... thanks for explaining what you’re hearing with your filter choices.
