Yes indeed!
Piqued my interest also. 2,5-3K retail. |
The SACD market is still going strong, I like that. At 2.5-3K is definitely taking
advantage of the hole Oppo is leaving behind. |
Sounds like it will offer really good value at that price. https://www.techhive.com/article/333...cd-player.html

The AK4497 is a very good 32-bit DAC based on AKM’s VELVET SOUND. It will not be the flagship for long though as the 4499 is on the way. No idea what changes the new dac brings nor would I worry about a “newer dac” :D

Wonder if it is really "Japanese"? Or, like today's Yamaha gear, made in Malaysia or Vietnam or China or ............. Esoteric and Luxman are two who "keep the faith" (though Luxman did default to China for a bit), but think the mass-market folks have all moved off-shore from Japan for their production, whether in their own factory or from the lowest bidder.

Funny how when I was growing up ‘Made in Japan’ was synonymous with poorly made cheap garbage and now it appears to be a gold standard.
I draw the line at ‘Made on Earth’. No Martian space garbage for me. Nope. :) |

Too bad about some, like Yamaha. While I haven't looked in a couple of years, a little judicious on-line shopping would show several resellers offering Yamaha's TOTL CDPs & integrated amps that had been repaired under warranty available at excellent pricing. Plus, this is the "Japanese Exotica" forum. To me, that means "Made in Japan". |

Denon and Marantz make their gear in a lot of different places - mostly Korea and Taiwan. A good operations group can make anything anywhere with very high quality and reliability - but it’s not easy!
I totally get the ‘Made in the Home Country’ gestalt because there is a lot of truth to it for sure. |
