THD rating Pass amps

At the specs of every Pass amp I've looked at the rating is 1% distortion @ 1kHz @ full power. Does anybody know what they mean with ''full power''?

Maximum rated output power published (spec'd) by the manufacturer.

That would mean that they have quite a high level of distortion, right? For example if you look at McIntosh, they measure it on a full signal (20Hz-20kHz vs 1kHz) and have a rating of 0,005%

Stop looking and listen!!!

Don't worry about that, you'll never listen that distortion.....Pass Labs rocks! :rock-on:

Perhaps they are citing the distortion at peak power when it leaves Class A and dips into Class B?

Pass amps dig pretty deep before you can discern any real quality loss. Worthy of a listen.

Indeed. I love the sound they make. But I was just checking their website and saw these distortion ratings which are the same as let's say a Onkyo receiver and they made me wonder.

I imagine that Pass does. info@passlabs.com. They're not bashful, and unlike Ayre who tell you that you are not worthy of their time, the good folks at Pass (most likely Kent English) respond fairly quickly and thoroughly. They are genuinely interested in engaging with current and potential owners of their product.

Oh oh, here we go again... With all due respect maybe it's time to put your issues with Ayre to rest. Seems like you can't pass (no pun intended) on any opportunity to bad mouth them.

Although their spec shows it as only distortion, it seems it's actually the spec for Noise + THD at rated power.

Attachment 48841

Measured power output at 8 ohms was 700 watts RMS at 1% THD+N, which is higher than spec.
