Audioquest Wind vs Earth

Today one of two packages from my dealer has been arrived. Just for testing for some weeks.
The AQ Aspen (BiWire) and AQ Wind (RCA). Both are used cables from their demoroom. So no need for waiting till they're ready.

No real testing yet. Watched a movie and after that played around with some songs we know. A friend of mine had a visit. He has nothing, really _nothing_ to do with good Audio Components or even High End. But he knows my equipment since years.

Even he noticed that there's a lack of bass. I mean, the sound is very very clean. Soundstage seems to be great. Timing is great. But, where's the bass? The growling bass? Not muddy bass.

Switched back to my 15 years old Fadel Art Aerolink (RCA) and YES! Great. More bass. Sounds great again. But... The Highs... Awful! OK, can't live with either the Wind nor the Aerolink. Fire is too expensive, therefore i'm waiting for the delivery of the AQ Earth (together with one AQ Thunder).

Speakers are B&W 802D3 with a DB2D-Sub. PowerAmp is a german NuPower A, which is generally "clean" but can do a lot of punch and bad growls and has a lots of Power.

What's your experiences with Wind and/or Earth?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist :D

I too experienced that Wind is indeed a little lean in bass, but I wouldn't call it severe. Yes, its treble quality is amazing. However I'm afraid you'll lose some significant detail moving down to copper Earth, based on my owning its predecessor model Colorado.

The current silver models above Wind all fill in the bass impact and punch (Fire, Wild, WEL), but at a much increased price. In a lower price bracket, you might like the now discontinued Sky, but you'll have to carefully screen counterfeits on the used market.

I posted the same in a german High-End-FB-Group. They gave me the advice to move the speakers. This is a _must_ after having changed one device.

Ehrm. No. Seems not logical for me.

So true!

If Wind doesn't suit you, try Niagara. They can be had for a very good price. I have used Niagara and Fire......very happy with both and certainly never noticed a lack of bass. Fire has gotten pretty cheap on the used market as well.....

Yeah, Fires have come down a LOT in price on the used market, and are a fantastic cable. Not nearly as counterfeited as Sky either. I've also used a 0.5m Niagara RCA as a SUT cable, and it's done a great job.

There's one used pair here at ebay (here in Europe) of the Fire-Cables. But too short. 0,75m and i really need 1,0m. It's nearly half the price. Damn...

My Fires replaced Wireworld Platinum Eclipse 7s and I couldn't be happier.

I use Fire between my pre and amps and it seems to be the sweet spot of the AQ line in price/performance.

Above that the silver content of WBY seems to make things a bit bright, and WEL Signature makes my wallet far too light. :D
