Looks like Thiel Audio is officially done.

I guess the writing has been on the wall for quite awhile since the passing of Jim Thiel, but this article, if accurate, says that it's pretty much official. What a sad ending to such a great high end brand with such a history. I still have good memories of my Thiel CS 2.4s......they were real giant killers when price was factored in. I'll always remember hearing the large 7.2s a long time ago as well. :tears:

Companies, like people come and go. I had only listened to a few Thiel speakers and for the most part thought they sounded pretty good and represented a especially good deal in the secondary market. I also really liked the "Gibson" starburst finish found on the CS3.7's

Unfortunately, I’m not surprised. Sad though.

At least the Thiel family was able to cash out before enterprise value dropped to zero.

A shame. But not unusual on family owned businesses that don’t prepare for the future.
Here’s a Peter Drucker article about family businesses...

I'm not a WSJ subscriber.

Is there any way I can read that article?

YES!

It did. Thank you very much.

How did you do that?

nicoff 01-19-2018 12:18 AM

I converted it to a pdf file. Saved the file on google drive and then gave you permission to see it. Roundabout way, I know, but glad you could read it. That article is from 1994. It is a classic and still used as case study on many MBA programs around the world.
