Christian...... Thank you for the post. Do you happen to know if, like the Pioneer unit appearing in this thread, the Sony(s) contain a DAC connected to the rear audio output(s)?

But... if you're asking if the Sony's have DIGITAL INPUTS to use its internal DAC with another component, that answer is no. (edit: The Pioneer doesn't have digital inputs, either) |
Christian.....Great point about the DAC. Yes, a digital source will probably have a DAC on board if it's to "convert" anything to analog ... D.A.C. Wow! I better put this phone down before I permanentIy injure myself!

If the Sony has two HDMI output - one can go to the TV and one to the HDMI DAC. The Pioneer is an Elite player and will cost more than the Sony. There is a “better” model called the LX800 but I prefer the 500 for its AKM DAC |
Better?
Doggiehowser.....Putting the DAC you prefer aside, what is it about the Pioneer LX800 that you think is better. Does it have something to do its upgraded video capability? Please elaborate.

The analog and digital circuits are from the Pioneer network streamer. It has XLR outputs. Video circuitry is the same. IMHO the Panasonic UB820 has better video processing. |

Often, but not always... https://www.stereophile.com/content/...-one-cd-player |
I have the UBX-X700 and looked at the UBX-800 very closely too.
These players do not have an RCA output. As far as I know, you need a DAC, the RCA you think is there is actually a digital coax out. I did not try to retrieve and analog signal from the HDMI outputs via an adapter. |
